Hello Kittynoir,

And welcome to the boards.

The silk and steel link Camerius posted is a great place to start, as is the Gorean FAQ thread (above)

The Wikepedia entry for Gor is interesting - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gor

As Gor is based around a series of books, you might want to take a peek at http://www.amazon.co.uk/Tarnsman-Gor-John-Norman/dp/0759283834/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1325795766&sr=1-2

Thankyou everybody, perhaps i should have worde my initial post a bit more specifically, you see what I was trying to get at is how Gor and BDSM are linked for it to be associated? But I think I may have found the answer throught the link by MM. If I am right it's dominance based rather than particularly bondage or the sadomasicism side of things. Is that right?

No, not really. It's Nature based, first and formost....

Ok. but here's the bit that confuses me.... there must be some corrrelation between Gor and bdsm for them to both be included on the same forum. Otherwise one would be classed as offtopic, and be moved or deleted.

There's very little in correlation to or between Gor and BDSM (which you would have found out if you have taken the time and read the links provided to you). As to why this place exists on a BDSM board is a matter of forum politics, I guess. There are others here whom are better suited to answer you as to why this is so than me, and if it pleases them, they might tell you the story of it....

Hi Camerius, yeah I was just a little confused about that (infact it still perplexes me) It seems by going through the links all I can tell is it's a bit cryptic and it may or may not be subjective (interpretation down to the individual). Either way I'm still baffled and I guess the only way I'm gonna really find out is if I read the books, but apparently there are a lot of them, so my lack of funding and bookshelf space won't really allow for me to find out properly for quite some time. Maybe I will just have to put the question to the back of my mind for now untill a time when I can delve a bit deeper. Untill then I shall just have to keep an open mind.

Both deal in the use and abuse of power..true, but one thing, to be punished for being unpleasing is not seen as a cool deal here.....not that you wouldn't dance to a whip for mans sport (a different basis of extant and intent).....

There is more sexual and non-sexual stuff but you want it for dummies, and that's the back of the matchbook version of Tolstoys War and Peace, In A Nutshell, Bottom Line, For Dummies that I can do.

But I am not fleet of tongue so better will come along.

It has the same type of correlation as the poly forum does. Poly is not BDSM.

****kittynoir.....

Consensual enslavement is the the connection plus in the books there are mentioned, tho rarely used, a number of BDSM toys. The exception to that is various forms of restraints and slave collars. There is also the wish of a number of people in BDSM to include as large a population as they can so they can look more mainstream and part of a larger sub-culture than they really are. Goreans mostly opt out but since people do discuss Gor on BDSM related sites, some of us have come here to correct the misconceptions and completely wrong information that most people have about Goreans.

Be well...

I am new to the site but functioned as a Gorian Master for over two years. Gor is similar to BDSM in some the following ways:

(BD)
  • Slaves are often bound for practical reasons.
  • Slaves are always collared.
  • Some Gorean positions are specifically design for the application of restraints

(DS)
  • A 24/7 power exchange is very similar to a Gorean Master/slave relationship.
  • The Master has complete control including what she eats and where she sleeps.
  • One of the premises of the books is that a woman's true nature is to submit.

(SM)
  • Slaves are often whipped for disobedience.
  • Some Gorean positions are specifically designed for whipping/caning.
However there are many other similarities (and differences as well), but these should tie in why there is a Gorean forum here.

Just out of a personal curiosity, where's the last 99.5% that has to do with Gor or being Gorean?

Could it be that that percent is what is being the center focus of why this exists?

couple other things that are similar we should note:

They got girls, we got girls.
They got boys, we got boys.
They eat food, we eat food.

The similarities in that respect are at the very least; astounding.

Glad to hear it, and don't worry about not having the full jigsaw puzzle together, Kitty. Most don't have until after having read the books and spent a long time working it all out from their own personal angles. Even then, there's still a long way to go.
