NV.. sometimes, snark is the only way to get through to a newbie who is entirely focused on their kink.

Now, obviously, I can't speak for anyone else, but when I get snarky it is for my own entertainment. Especially in the intros, when a clue-by-4 powered by a turbocharged jackhammer won't get a point across.

Hi Lady Hib,

Yes, I have seen the varying ways moderation has occurred on the boards.  It's gone from one extreme to another, and perhaps is finding some middle ground again.

I haven't seen anything that suggests new moderation goals, though.  I tended to not post so much when the overall negativity was too much for my own personal liking, so I totally get and respect that you'll post less if things get nicer.  Like I've said before, it's all about choices.

I don't go to P&R, either. We go to what interests us, and to where we are the most comfortable.

It's not that I want to avoid kindness---and I hope that I don't come across as some kind of internet bully. What I do not want is to be forced into an insincere posting style that really doesn't represent what I am about, and really what CM is about. This is not the zone of fluffy happy times, and it never has been. We really are a bunch of sick fucks, no matter how kindhearted we are.

I respect that this is your opinion and choice.  I might not agree, but nowhere have I said how other people should post.  I prefer (for myself) to either find a more positive way of treating people, or to just not give them my energy or attention.  That's my choice.

As I've said, GT, it's your choice.  I personally do not find it entertaining be snarky.  I find it mean-spirited, and I don't want or like to be mean-spirited, so I "x" out.

Oh I hope I didn't suggest that you want to avoid kindness; that's not what I was inferring from your post. Nor do I consider you a bully.

Yup and that's why I respond to the posts you address to me. You discuss rather than getting snarky which gets old fast.

Not to mention that anyone who has ever posted anything on the internet, particularly on a site where you do not disclose your true name and identity, knows to expect a certain amount of snark.  Again, I agree it doesn't hurt to be nice, but it also seems pretty obvious to me that some of the intro posters are trying to be provocative.  I would assume it doesn't bother them when it works.

I'm glad to hear that! There's been an Incident on Fetl that really has me thinking about it... There have been many times when I have just not engaged in a thread, and if there is a trainwreck here, most of the time I won't even be aware of it, because I work HARD on avoiding meanness. I do the snark, but I try to keep it in-house as it were, and share it with my crew on Fetl.

I am not pointlessly cruel, but I am DIRECT. We've had our share of butthurt babies over that kind of thing, the ones who want a pat on the head and praise for every dumbass idea. They are not getting that from me. They are not getting bad ideas and bad manners enabled. Is just totally ignoring their posts a solution? It doesn't work, too many people are too fond of troll baiting.

Thanks for saying this.  In our last discussion I was concerned I was coming across as too argumentative.

If someone is being an out and out fuckwit, I'll hit them with a dose of snark. Snark is better than Snarl.

If that gets their attention, I will then proceed to help them. I did it today.

Old Hillbilly axiom. To train a mule, first you hit them upside the head with a 2x4. That gets their attention and training can begin. I don't think any mules have ever actually been struck that way but the idea is that before you can teach someone, you have to have their attention.
Being nice doesn't do it 99% of the time.

If there is some new moderation goal of Pollyanna Posting, yes, I want to know so I can STFU and just stop posting in any area that I am not likely to fit.

AGREED. Yes, I snark sometimes, where I think it´s deserved. I´ve been on this planet long enough to have developed zero tolerance for a lot of things. Call me a snarky bitch, put me on ignore if you want. But turning into a grumpy old snark has to be one of the compensations for getting older. Or even one of the bonuses.

I have a simple rule on boards & that is don't post anything I wouldn't be prepared to say face to face or have said to me. I think that some oversensitivity is going on here. if you think this bad then get a job where I work, now that is way nastier than here. & no we don't run to the union or HR when it gets going. I have told chimps I work with to join me for a post work beer & repeat what has been said & only one has taken up the offer.

Sometimes a frank exchange of opinions is a cathartic experience.

I know for a fact that more than two have........ And one horse that was doing an impersonation of a mule. (though that wasn't exactly a 2x4 but more of a tree branch and I don't remember exactly what was used on the mules similarly..)

I guess it's the boycott mindset - if everyone stops buying a particular product, maybe the manufacturer will get the message (whatever message the consumers are wanting to send).  But you're right in that there will always be people who jump on the bash-wagon, so we'll never see a wank-fodder type intro just dangle there with nothing.

But since I personally don't want to give that stuff my attention, I don't.  As you've said, we need to be sincere with who we are.

My uncle had a horse that would "blow up" on him when he saddled it. He'd just punch it in the ribs, horse would exhale and he'd tighten the cinch. They'd ride happily all day after that. Any time he forgot to do that, within 30 seconds, he's on the ground and the saddle is hanging from the horse's side.
