Afghans, US sign deal on night raids quote: KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — The Afghan government and the U.S. signed a deal Sunday governing night raids by American troops, resolving an issue that had threatened to derail a larger pact governing a U.S. presence in the country for decades to come. Night raids involve U.S. and Afghan troops descending without warning on homes or residential compounds searching for insurgents. They are widely resented in this deeply conservative country. So in the decade long unwinnable clusterfuck of the US in Afghanistan, we have one military tactic that works, that strikes some fear into the people we are fighting, that doesn't involve marching a squad out to get ambushed so they can shoot back, and we have made a "deal" to stop doing it. Bring them home now. Bring them home yesterday. And every time the Dems want to crow that President Obama got bin Laden, remind them that then he licked Karzai and the Taliban's balls, and took the tool that put a bullet between Osama bin Laden's eyes right out of our arsenal. If this is how we get to the peace table, what's our formal surrender ceremony going to look like?

It does seem like a bad move alright. Hard to see how the move will give equal responsibility to the Afghan authorities as the article suggests since the majority of the troops are likely to be US led so when it comes to blame it will simply be more of the same. Another report covering the story stated that they will require permission from local Afghani authorities first. Considering the issue of Taliban infiltration, I imagine that could become a serious security issue.

Seems to me some are forgetting Karzai was the Republicans choice. I would guess this has come about due to last months massacre.

Hilariously, he is being criticized by the same people who criticized his failure to reach an agreement in Iraq (where we need it less). You really do not think the man who killed Osama, al-Alwalki, helped overthrow Qadaffi is gogint to ask anyone's permission when the time comes (as no U.S. president would).

Well Afghanistan was created by the British, who gave a way part of India on the way out, I say give it back to India, let them deal with it.

He (Obama) was left with a clusterfuck to deal with by Bush (More than one but thats getting off topic) After the killings last month it was obvious something would need to be done to show the Allies, including the Afghan forces we are training, are working in lockstep.

I don't think you can blame this one on colonial Britain, while they ran a couple of obviously unsuccessful missions there, they (and the Russkies) took away more land than they gave. And it was Afghanistan long before the brits. Anyone want to place my favorite Kipling poem here?
