ORIGINAL: RemoteUser A greeting can be courteous without endorsing anything. I hate half the poorly-thought drivel that is sadly commonplace in that whole section; but if I don't know the person well enough to do anything more than think they are dumb, I can still offer a hello. Sometimes people can be turned around with the right approach (not everyone, but then that's no excuse to throw everyone under the bus, either). Yes, I realize "a greeting can be courteous without endorsing anything", but it's the perception of the reader. It is definitely possible for the OP to view kindly responses as believing said responses are a form of acceptance. When it's obvious they are just here to pick the pockets of horny men and other gullible types, then they are not here for sincere reasons and doubtful they could ever be "turned around". (shortened for brevity) Like you say, though, it's possible this, could be that. And the word obvious is in there too. I've underlined the key words here that support an assumption but don't equate to fact. If you want to give a negative reaction out based on assumption, that's your choice. Until I know someone, I don't have reason to judge them because really - what do I know for fact and more importantly, what do I care? It doesn't cost any more to be friendly than it does to be snarky. It's a choice. My own choice will be to kick people in the ass once they've earned it, not because I think their opening line is lame. There's even a third choice - just say nothing and if they are trolls, they can walk away unfed. We all started somewhere, but that seems to count for shit these days as tolerance bows to attitude.
