Hello everyone,

I had an amusing incident that happened to me last week. I've been battling the crud for the past few months. Everyone in the personnel section that I work with have been passing it back and forth. Master and I have been passing it back and forth. The phlegm (so yummy) was getting worse and my chest was starting to really hurt.

So last Monday I called the doctor's office and was able to get a same day appointment. I saw the doctor, she listened to my chest, and said she wanted me to get a chest x-ray. My doctor's office is a full fledged medical center and the x-ray department was downstairs. I head downstairs and am sent to a changing area and told to take the top half of my clothes off and then put on the hospital gown. As the nurse was shutting the door she said I also had to remove all jewelry. Uh-oh. Uh, Ma'am, I can't take off my "necklace". She didn't understand what I was saying. She said, no, just go ahead and take it off and place it in your purse. I can't. It's locked. It's locked? With what? A small screw and I don't have the tool to unlock it. What is needed to unlock it? A teeny, tiny Allen wrench. Oh, well I can call our service man and see if he has that tool. (In my mind all of a sudden I see the whole service crew huddled around me going, well will you look at that, we don't have an Allen wrench that small Ma'am, perhaps we can try to cut it off. All the nurses and doctors in the background, clamoring around to get a glimpse.) How about if I just hold it up, while you take the x-ray? No, you have to have your arms placed a certain way. Nurse: I can try and tape it up to your neck. Me: Really? You don't mind? Ok, let's try it.

So off we go into the x-ray room where she tapes my collar to my upper neck and cheek, up at the nape of my neck. Thank goodness it kept and we were able to get the pictures taken. Afterwards, she helped take the tape off. It was stuck to my hair in the back.

All in all, it was by far the most awkward doctor's visit I have ever had. I do have to give the nurse credit, she was extremely professional throughout the whole thing. A very good sport overall.

Lesson learned: I am now carrying the spare key with me at all times.

Master and I had quite the chuckle over the whole ordeal.

Has anyone else experienced similar situations?

hmmm i dont go to the doctor much so thats not been a problem... every time i do go to the doctor they hand me domestic abuse pamphlets and say they wont do whatever i came in for until i get to a safe place so i dont bother.... but i have had some weird collar experiences.....

i'll ignore the unpleasant examples i have and go to the funny ones

sitting against an end panel at home depot with their largest bolt cutters trying to find an angle at which to get them around and through the tightly fitted steel cable around your neck.... when a store employee walks up and asks if you need any help.... before a shared awkward stare and turning to leave.

your owner 'losing' the key the weekend you have to travel for a work event(luckily it was a porn convention so it wasnt that big of a deal other than that i was a booth girl/talent manager for a site that was very soft core girl next door stuff.....)

Hah! Thanks for sharing. I'm sure you're experience in Home Depot will enter my mind whenever I pass the bolt cutters.

I'm glad that it worked out for your travel. One more reason to keep the key on me. I travel quite a bit for my job as well.

I do get the idea of having a locked collar. But people should realize real life things happen that you never plan for. Trips to the emergency room for many many reasons. Appendicitis, broken bones, chest pains, and the list goes on. And many of the times an X-ray is needed or an MRI to diagnose the emergency. So I do recommend always having access to the key for any locked item.

I tend to agree with mummyman321. Part of the lifestyle talks about being Safe and Sane. So please be safe and sane. Common sense should always rule.

And if you happen to have allergies and carry and epi-pen, be sure to carry either the key or allen wrench taped right to the body of the injector. Better safe than sorry.

Common sense is never common. If it's an emergency, your doctors will remove that collar in a hurry, and if you don't have the key, you'll be out one collar. If it's not an emergency (and you can't find someone with an allen key) you'll probably instead be out the price of two doctors visits, and whatever social penalty you pay for irritating the staff.

I got my (ex-)sub a locking collar and cuff from Eternity Collars but got rid of them after she slipped in the kitchen and bruised her wrist rather badly on the cuff.

Before I got rid of it, I was concerned about the possibility of a crisis situation so I replaced the screw that came with the collar with a small screw that had a head that was small but big enough that it can be twisted out by hand.

I bought my pet a stainless steel locking collar. What I like about it is, the pin is held magnetically in the top. Worse case scenario, I use a paper clip to unlock it. I have enough trust in pet, that she will not remove it unless I tell her she can.

Where did you purchase your collar from?
