Considering it is the Daily Mail, it's actually very well researched (for their standards, with the usual BS, but as far as I know nitrous oxide is a controlled substance and at festivals the police usually confiscates it where they find it, it's one of the loopholes where you can buy it you have a legitimate purpose but if you inhale it or sell it for inhalation it's drug violation)

I can't comment much on the accuracy of their reporting on pro-domination, but I can say that at that club I worked at, we took fire safety very seriously. All the 'safety guys' were taught where all the extinguishers were, and there was a bright yellow vest at each station so we could lead people out. It was a basement club, but we had three ways out and part of my job was to make sure the doors were unblocked at all times. I could just imagine the scene if we'd ever had a fire, and the good citizens of SLC found out about that joint when a slew of leather and rubber-clad people suddenly started appearing on the streets. [;)]

It is but for the Daily Mail, it's actually surprisingly open minded and well researched, they usually go with "whips and chains and weird sex"

The description was very minimal, but certainly fits most people's (non BDSM types) vision of what it is.

Personally, I found her complete ignorance and disregard of fire safety disturbing, as it means her other business pratice is likely wanting as well.

And only 1100 a month? No wonder the judge suggested she jump at an opportunity that pays more.

Since it's a cash business I think the judge was sarcastic, knowing full well that the gave the minimum amount of what she thought she could get away with. On the other hand, Stockport isn't a very affluent place, the dungeon didn't look like a well equipped place and the area looked certainly run down, I would worry about parking my car around there....

I'm willing to bet that this isn't the end of it, she was fined for one particular incident, pretty sure that there are a lot of inspections going to happen in the future and maybe a tax audit, 10K for refurbishing, but 1100 a month (about 2K in $) income, then a home in Salford, which is an affluent area, I'm pretty sure that the IRS will have a word with her and take a look at her accounts, that the police will have a word with her regarding the laughing gas...

But yes, neglecting the most basic of precautions (fire safety) tends to make one wonder if she's the sharpest tool in the box, she also possibly didn't have a license for the dungeon, because that would have included a fire safety inspection... There might be a couple of court cases coming.

I can't say I find that disappointing.

I found the income strange, because even with the conversion to US dollars is not much.

Of course not knowing run down from affluent areas there I wouldn't know how obvious she was being, but apparently quite obviously being dishonest about her income.

Where I see a "problem" is that she is presenting a bad image for the pros and dungeons that are on the up and up.

For that, I hope she gets put out of business with all the inquiries from the law and tax collectors

That is SUCH an awesome building for a dungeon... why is it so shitty inside?

If you're going to be a pro out of your own place, get some nice, custom work... not shoddy black 2x4s that every dungeon proudly sports.

Find a kinky welder/fabricator! Pay the big bucks to get something brutally beautiful!

Cross dressing? Wonderful! Splurge on some wonderful vintage couches and vanities! If you ARE doing mostly cross dressing, and you like fashion, why the hell is every wall blood red? Come on now, just because it's kinky, doesn't mean everything has to be black and red.

For Christ's sake, that looks like the welfare office of kink. (Although I did laugh at the gratuitous blurring of everything on the shelf... ew dusty dildos!)

Actually the article is interesting in the fact that many people do not realize all the laws that are out there if you start your own business as a Dominatrix or escort. The building you use for this should be up to code. Meaning you need to have sprinklers for fire safety, handicap access, and a whole host of other building and safety codes. If you do not, you just might end up getting a fine. Most people never think about that when starting their dungeon businesses.

Yes, that was my reaction. Side note, even in non-professional play involving fire always have water close, within inches, of your hand and your subject.

"The welfare office of kink" made me laugh. And while my experience with fire play is strictly as an observer, we had Class 3 fire extinguishers on hand whenever open flame of any kind was involved. Water and petrochemicals don't play well together. My own preference is Halon or CO2, as it starves a fire of oxygen, rather than overwhelming it with mass.
