I think crumpets is being a bit sensationalistic with bringing up pinworms. Pinworms are not typically found in healthy adult populations and definitely not typical of urinary tract infections. Trichomonas is a parasite that is far more likely to be a cause of urinary tract infections than pinworm. (I used to see it with alarming regularity when I lived on Maui. Mind you, most were urine specimens with vaginal contamination and not directly from the urine.) Granted, Trichomonas vaginalis is not found in stool. But there are a myriad of gastro-intestinal tract parasites aside from pinworms. The only other bit of information I can pass on that doesn't repeat the good advice others have provided is the use of D-mannose. It works wonderfully for most UTI's. (I am speaking from personal experience here.) The vast majority of urinary tract infections are caused by E. coli and it's this type of bacteria that D-mannose helps flush out of your system. If the type of bacteria causing your UTI isn't E. coli, or one with similar properties, then D-mannose won't work. You could try D-mannose prophylactically, it may nip any potential infections from starting up, but if you already have one, D-mannose is going to do more than cranberry juice ever will. It's a bit pricey, but you can find it in your local health food or vitamin store. I personally prefer the powder over capsules, but to each his own. If you're diabetic, manufacturer's will caution against its use because it is a type of sugar. In that case, you might check with your doc. I hope the above helps!!
