I tried both. Had submissives with really impressive careers and that did not bother me at all - they could support themselves and I would only focus on the fun stuff. Other times I provided for all of us, and I remember this one slave I wanted specifically to work in a certain place in order to provide only for me. I liked the idea of her offering her body to others for money I would then take in. As long as you and your partner or partners talk openly, there is absolutely nothing stopping you from finding your balance.
