Quiette -> Does written hypnosis work? (9/10/2016 12:46:15 PM)

I was about to post a message I got in "Funny Messages from the 'Other Side'" thread but then again maybe this is actually a real thing. I get quite a few messages from hypnosis doms that are these loooong paragraphs of hypnosis instructions and it baffles me. I never really pondered whether it works for someone or not but rather I think "IF it worked, why not just buy a book typing out all this and leave you out of the equation?" I especially love when they start out asking me to close my eyes...while reading their message. By the way, I'm not really asking about actual hypnosis because I know there are people who are reeeaaallly into it. I'm talking about people sending their hypnosis instructions via message swearing multiple orgasms or whatever. I only got through one before never making it to the end of any that followed every again. But maybe I should?

Anyways, that's my question. I would copy paste the message but I have a feeling anyone who responds to this will know what I'm talking about. If not, ask and ye shall receive.

i started to say "no, hypnosis in via a wall of text is not a thing", then I remembered academic texts ;)

Simple answer, written hypnosis like you describe isn't a thing, what you got was a "fantasy story about hypnosis".

Quiette -> RE: Does written hypnosis work? (9/10/2016 1:24:41 PM)

You know, part of me was hoping it worked because I'd love to read a message that leads to 3 simultaneous orgasms. I'd keep it under my pillow.

Alecta -> RE: Does written hypnosis work? (9/10/2016 1:28:40 PM)

There are excellent stories that can do just that, tho they won't hypnotize you.

DesFIP -> RE: Does written hypnosis work? (9/10/2016 1:31:49 PM)

I remember some college texts that put me straight to sleep. Unfortunately I don't think that was the aim of the authors.

DocStrange -> RE: Does written hypnosis work? (9/10/2016 1:32:20 PM)

Nothing but fantasy

While hypnosis is very real, and email or message will not induce a hypnotic state. To put someone in a trance via hypnotic induction generally requires repetitive voice commands and/or visually imagery. And the person has to be willing to be put into a trance.

Not a real thing. Just someone who has a wild fantasy

ILoveMyLittle -> RE: Does written hypnosis work? (9/10/2016 8:16:59 PM)

The answer in my experience is yes, to a slight degree. I remember reading a hypnosis textbook that covered some inductions. I noticed after a short while I had entered a light trance. It would have been useless for the purposes of control or command, but I felt very swirly and trancy. REAL hypnosis works best between hypnotist and subject FACE TO FACE. The hypnotist has to establish rapport, which is impossible with any other method UNLESS that rapport has previously been established face to face.

ThatDizzyChick -> RE: Does written hypnosis work? (9/10/2016 10:39:02 PM)

No, it's not a thing

YourSincereSlave -> RE: Does written hypnosis work? (9/11/2016 9:40:07 AM)

The only way to do written hypnosis (and even then it's far less reliable than voice) is through chat.

You post short lines, always at the same interval, the receiver ends up staring at the screen anticipating each and every message, and each and everyone of them appears on their screen a the expected moment.

But if it's all in a mail, there is no sense of rhythm, the would-be hypnotized person is fully in control of how they read it, they don't end up waiting for the next line or anything.

So no.

By "far less reliable" I trust you mean "10,000 times less reliable?

Have you had success with this approach yourself?

WhoreMods -> RE: Does written hypnosis work? (9/11/2016 10:24:49 AM)

FR:
While there's a few horror stories around the conceit that certain sigils can immediately put somebody into a trance state (it's one of the several subplots in Fritz Leiber's Conjure Wife, but that one gets less attention that Christopher Fowler's -shitawful- Rune for some reason) there's no evidence that this would ever work.
Look at it this way: if the hypnosis MP3s (laden down with binaurals, drones in funny time signatures, whispered subliminals and fuck knows what else) mostly don't work, why would prose? As Alecta points out, the distancing from reality that occurs when a piece of fiction takes you out of yourself is rather different to a trance.

Maybe not 10,000 times less, but possibly 1,000 times. :P

I actually felt something approaching a state of trance one time, but I'm fairly hard to hypnotize to begin with.
I hate losing control so even when I want to lose it, I still resist.

I also never done it to another myself, I don't know the techniques or anything, what I said above is based on how the hypnotist was working (or trying to work) with me. They however allegedly have been successful before, and it did seem like it could work.
The person would have to already be in a pretty receptive state however, I think.
Perhaps with a self-hypnosis session prior (I found a pretty good method for this in a book before, and taught it to a couple people who made it work... I, for reasons mentioned above, was never able to).

My only successful personal experience was with voice, as the hypnotist.

You're getting sleepy.

You are? OK.

Sign everything you own over to me now.

You will wake up in 3-2-1.

No. Completely wrong. People trance all the time, while reading books, watching movies and driving. The Russian Scam relies on rapidly inducing trance via an interrupted handshake to mug people.

I'd keep it in a more 'central' spot myself!

WhoreMods -> RE: Does written hypnosis work? (9/13/2016 7:43:04 AM)

So you don't understand how a trance state differs from zoning out while engaging in habitual behaviour or a heightened state produced by specifically focussing your attention on something, then. Figures.

As for the use of an interrupted handshake to induce a trance quickly, what does that have to do with a discussion about hypnosis through writing? You can't mug somebody with prose.

Or never?

I'll also add that amateur hypnotism isn't something that I would consider safe. All it takes is brushing up against something neither of you knew was there. The amateur doesn't know how to handle it and can end up doing damage.

It's interesting that most of the people here wouldn't go get pierced by an amateur, but they're perfectly happy to let an amateur hypnotist play with their brain.

Awareness -> RE: Does written hypnosis work? (9/13/2016 12:19:41 PM)

No, I understand what a trance state is. You have no idea because you're ignorant. And the interrupted handshake induction is an example of how quickly and easily trance states can be induced. Your ideas regarding hypnosis are quaintly out of date and are clearly drawn from movies from the early 20th century.

Utter fucking bollocks. Hypnosis is not the mind-controlling power that Hollywood portrays it as being. Ye Gods, the ignorance here is astonishing.
