Now you mention that, if you were to do a search for Lady Marmalade you're more likely find the video for the cover version from from Moulin Rouge than the original Labelle version from the '70s, so yep, that sort of thing is definitely a problem.

It would help if I were to take in lyrics - but I almost never do.

Funny, I've always been the same way. I remember when young I'd be listening to something and some would say "Ugh! you like that song? The words are terrible!" Me, with some embarrassment; "Um ... I never noticed, sorry." I was so strictly tuned into the musical aspect.

Whatever the deal, ABBA's Voulez-Vous had some words even I could pick out. So I tried a search of 'lyrics' 'ah ha' and '(ah-ha)' and 'ah-ha!' and came up with the Butthole Surfers every time.

But then I tried 'lyrics' "ain't no big decision" and got a full page of ABBA and their Francophile venture. I was so loud with my hand clapping and foot stomping listening to the tune, I had difficulty in sussing those words out, but I put my ears to the speaker and finally got it. Though I don't know why anybody cares about the rest of the words when you are busy yelling "Ah Ha!" and clapping to it loudly.

I must say, though, that ABBA's venture into Disco did inspire me to buy Frank Zappa's album Sheik Yerbouti.

"I May Be Totally Wrong, But I'm A . . . "

I'm actually not a Dancin' Fool, never have been into dancing much, just like my inconsideration for song lyrics. But I occasionally do the hand clap thing when the song calls for it.

Exactly. For me, the human voice in songs is just another instrument ... I take in the sound of it and it may even be the key thing to my liking the song - but I don't generally listen to the lyrics for their meaning. Funny. I've always been like that.

Still am - but sometimes to my regret. For instance, Hozier's 'Take Me to Church' clicked for me the first time I heard it. I put it on my party playlist straight away. It was months later before a femdom friend of mine told me that there was a clear femdom/malesub theme in it. I was astonished - I, a malesub himself, hadn't even noticed!

That guy has a great voice, no question. Like Needles says, and as per her videos, it seems to have a gay theme to it. But good voice is good voice, and what I think we are both listening to is how emotion comes through the voice in a variety of aspects and situations. (If I didn't word it properly, please don't take that I find objection to the background in that song,)

I remember the first record that my sister and I went halves on, The Supremes' "Love Is Like An Itching In my Heart". I remember the first words of it, but as soon as the snare drum hit the roll on top of the fifth measure, my sister's and my friends were bouncing all over the room, so all I could hear was voice qua voice after that. Years later, I would put on that song in the midst of all The Who and Led Zep records, and all the girls and more than a few of the guys instantly went berserk.

A freaking fantastic record, and my sister and I "got it in one" on the first venture. I did much worse later, but that's another story.

Is it too late to answer the OP's original question by saying "A ghurka is what a crap ventriloquist's mushmouthed dummy calls a burka"?

No - that's the video that I have on my party play-list and I thought it was about being gay, too ... till my femdom friend pointed me to the lyrics themselves. He's singing about having a femdom partner!

Here you go:

"My lover's got humour
She's the giggle at a funeral
Knows everybody's disapproval
I should've worshipped her sooner
If the heavens ever did speak
She's the last true mouthpiece
Every Sunday's getting more bleak
A fresh poison each week
"We were born sick"
You heard them say it
My church offers no absolutes
She tells me "worship in the bedroom"
The only heaven I'll be sent to
Is when I'm alone with you
I was born sick, but I love it
Command me to be well"

That was still never the way I took it. More rather he's talking about his LOVE, the emotion, as female. That his Church is against what he is regardless of his faith, but that's just me, and strangely my son also said ages ago that he thought the same thing. I do see your point though

I was really surprised when my femdom friend pointed me to the lyrics, Needles, I freely admit. The way he sings, it's as though it just can't be about something as 'frivolous' as femdom/malesub. It feels like it has to be about some really momentous. But, apparently, on some F/m website she uses, a lot of the femdoms cite that song as their 'anthem' in their profiles.

Funny, though, given that I'm a straight malesub: I didn't like it quite so much after my femdom friend told me all this. Hozier, apparently, was fine with the video that was matched with the song. I can see why - it's *very* moving.

Yeah, I'm not sure how I like the thought of it being an 'anthem' for femdoms. Each to their own I guess. I'll stick with watching the version I like best, and thinking of it as being a little 'deeper'?

Going off the rails is one thing, but going completely out of the rail yard?

Thread hyjacking occurs often in these forums. The Gurkhas actually have several Kukris of different sizes and the smaller ones go into a special pocket inside the main kukri scabard.

Out of the rail yard is no longer good enough: I want to see one of these trains taken up to escape velocity and put in orbit.
