Well, let's assume you get really successful and do a event each month.
So, take your definition of "decent living" and divide it by twelve.
Let's say you live frugally, have no mortgage or healthcare costs and drive an economical car... You can probably survive by charging $2000 a time.

The question is, are there enough potential customers within your area who are going to pay that much?

Isn't expecting to get paid more than your expenses a breach of the wiccan rede?
If you want to make money from being a witch, write a book: it worked for Starhawk and the Farrars.

It is perhaps time someone told you that you are one obnoxious bastard cretin and you serve no useful purpose to anyone including members of your own family.

Writing books is a way to make income though seldom any significant amount for most authors. Stewart Farrar was a Journalist who was a staff writer on a now defunct weekly publication. He was a member of the Alexandrian Wiccan Path of Alex and Maxine Sanders. That coven was largely a training coven and went on to spore many others. During the late 1960s and early 1970s the Coven was based at 15a Clanricarde Gardens, Notting Hill Gate, across the road from several eastern block embassies. They later moved into the adjacent flat of 13a which was more appropriate. A connecting door led from one apartment to the other even before they moved. Prior to the weekly meetings most coven members and potential initiates would meet up for a drink and chat at the Swan Public House which was situated at the Junction of Notting Hill Gate and Kensington Church Street. A number of celebrities many now dead, were members of the Coven. Alex and Maxine were minor celebrities who made one film, did a few theater performances and appeared on chat shows of the time. The pub no longer exists and has been closed since the 1980s. Today Maxine lectures occasionally but lives a reclusive life in a cottage in the Snowdonia National Park. She has a webpage online. There is no hard and fast rule that states no Wiccan Clergy can make money, it depends upon the rules of any given wiccan path and not the Pagan movement as a whole. A young private soldier of the 1st Battalion, the Green Howards was a member and he was first rate at massage and particularly sensual massage. A number of young naked female beauties used to line up to be massaged by him the the living room of the Sanders apartment which was in the basement of the said house in Clanricarde Gardens. He could only attend every 6th meeting or so due to his military service and between Germany, Cyprus, Belize and Northern Ireland. The lucky blighter got to massage and even bed some famous female pop singers and actresses of the period. He later left the Army and went to University and today is a well known Broadcaster on Australian Television. The Alexandrian Wiccan Movement spread worldwide but is little known today

I've read Drawing Down The Moon as well. No idea where you've got the idea that the Alexandrian variant of Wicca is obscure, though. If anything it's more widespread than the Gardnerian approach at the moment. It doesn't have anything like the media profile it had when Sanders was still self publicising back in the '70s, but it's still one of the more prominent variations of the craft about at the moment.
I'm not saying that Wiccan clergy aren't allowed to make money: that would be ridiculous. Charging for performing as "Wiccan clergy" was frowned upon the last time I checked, though. The Farrars took an even dimmer view of that than Sanders did of them publishing his book of shadows, iirc.

You didn't answer his question...

Isn't expecting to get paid more than your expenses a breach of the wiccan rede?

and to answer your op...i would think that would depend on where you plan on practicing. If you find an area with enough clients then you should be able to make a go of it. That is as long as the answer to the question above is no, if it is yes, then I doubt you are going to find a lot of people willing to play.

One way to answer that question is to look who is making a living out of it now? I think that answers your question.

I think many have including the farrars and the sanders and others. They were each hypocrites who did not prctice what they preached.

The fact that you don't have your own knowledge tells me you are not of high enough order to even be putting yourself out there in the position anyway. I'd be very skeptical about whether you'd be following correct ritual protocol, and the fact that you think this is a way to make a living is just dodgy from the outset.

Read the Wiccan Rede, even as a Solitary you're doing the practice a disservice

Cheapskates don't even want to pay five bucks for a pair of cuffs that cost 20 to make. Figure it out.

What have handcuffs got to do with a Wiccan Priest looking to supplement their income?
