Recently, I revisited the old Twin Peaks television series, more for its X-filesy type plot. I also watched the movie "Twin Peaks, Fire Walk with me." Now, I have but one question. Is Lynch completely mad or is the symbolism in both those endeavors way too cerebral?

I don't think that's an either/or question, as both cases can apply. (Though what he did to Dune does argue for the former case, I'd have thought.)

Never watched it - did they remake it it - or remaking it....sherilyn fenn was tidy I seem to remember. Dune never read the book(s) or watched the film....mind you is there not like 10 different versions of whats it mccalled - ah Blade Runner ( had to look that up as i am growing more forgetful and senile) What do they call them on those super hero films - Easter eggs or something...i never see any i just sit there thinking this film is fuking shit And dont get me started on all the recent glut of those films they were all garbage, some were actually untreated effluent.....and all the Star Wars ones ffs - all abominations save A New Hope - Blue Harvest was good too :) Family Guy Presents Blue Harvest: 'Save The Couch' Clip https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ao5wiaze1TQ I tend to go easy on the metaphysical wrtings these days

I'd say it's more a massive dumbing down of the book rather than a rewrite, myself. Jodorowsky's sadly unfilmed version would have involved a huge rewrite and expansion of the book if it had ever got made, whereas Lynch just chose to dump a load of stuff and play up some other bits. Sadly, he had most of the wrong bits in each list, so the film doesn't really work as a story very well. The best thing about it is some of the batshit design, and it's almost worth watching for some of that alone. Most of the actual changes that Lynch made are either cosmetic, or an attempt to avoid explaining why any of the social and political stuff in the story works the way it does.

Dune – shrugs Blue Velvet –was that him too – nods.
