outlier -> For TwiceHappy & IronBear about "Crazy Bastards" (7/25/2006 7:15:25 PM)

I have enjoyed your posts individually for awhile and I hope you two and
others are as tickled by this as I am.

This post started with a piece of sychronisity as so many things do.

First I was sent this link by a friend about these Aussie motorcycle racers.
http://www.mcnews.com.au/ClassicsCustoms/Dragbike/dragbike_feature.htm

Then I was going through some old motorcycle magazines to give to a friend
who is thinking about getting back up on two wheels. In one I found a column
by Gordon Jennings, titled "Crazy Bastards". Besides being an author I especially
enjoyed GJ was a motorcycle racer among other things. In the article he says:

"I've kept my focus on motorcycles simply because they're a magnet for
eccentrics, rogues, loonies, misfits, and plain crazy bastards, who entertain
me in ways machinery can never match."

Later in the article he says,

"Naturally, the craziest of all the crazy bastards motorcycling attracts are found
in racing. Racers, especially the professionals, are obviously deranged:
People who keep jabbing saber-toothed tigers in the ass with a short stick
and expecting it to lay golden eggs clearly are not behaving rationally."

I am even going to use that last sentence as my sig line for awhile.

Edited: IronBear has two caps in it, sorry bout that.

I'm officially fucking speechless ~ Great post and my thanks....[:D]

Spotlight follows as he walks up to accept the award.

Waits for applause to die down and says: "I really did
not have a speech prepared because I did not expect
to be getting this award for Extraordinary Achievement ."

"I know that many have said that the Old Bear would have
something to say about anything and everything and I certainty
did not expect to be the one to silence him."

"Also I must say a special thank you to the committee for retiring
the trophy because not only was he speechless but, self proclaimed
as being 'officially fucking speechless' , and I achieved this
before my tenth post. I assure you that his response has been printed
out will be framed and prominently displayed and is in itself an award."

He exits stage left, gratefully acknowledging more applause.

Seriously IB,

I had the same reaction, you no doubt noted that I could only
quote another. I just thought you would like it because they
were countrymen and I suspect you have known a few tiger
pokers in your time.

You may have even held the stick a time or two yourself.
They may have been the kind of choppers you jump out of
instead of throw a leg over, but the tiger still bites if you are
not very well prepared and careful. I am glad you enjoyed it.

First off much like IronBear i am speechless!
(I to am a fan of IB'S)

Secondly what an awesome drag bike!!!!!! I was about drooling over the engine. Damn wish i could borrow that one for the Indy race in August.

I am extremely flattered and amazed by this post.

Here is your trophy from me.

And a relatively recent race pic of my own, on my KTM 450 EXC, i love Harescrambles(except for those damn jumping trees).

Funny i really never thought of racing as particularly dangerous and i've had a few bone damaging crashes; i always considered it to be like breathing, something i both enjoy and must do.

P.S.  THANK YOU SO MUCH AND WELCOME TO THE BOARDS.

Sexual attributes aside..you know what they say.
Sports; Basketball, golf, football, soccer, baseball...etc. Note that these sports have one thing in common, they require one ball. Racing however is the one sport that requires two, and generally large ones.....I rest my case!

TwiceHappy,

Wow I am impressed. You are not only TwiceHappy but you
are twice useful. You are a contestant and a trophy girl.
Do you hold umbrellas too?

I say the KTM photo before they took it down. It was
fun to share the link about that monster bike with others.

If my calculator did not lie to me it is putting out a little
more than sixteen horsepower per cubic inch. What do
you say in the face of that?

Ride safe

Lol, no  i am not a trophy girl, i actually used to have my mechanic get my trophys for me(i loved winning but never really cared about the trophys), and unlike motorcross Harescrambles and iceraces rarely have trophy girls the GNCC's being the exception.

I agree Scooter old chap. Jumping out of aircraft into unfriendly teritory or repelling from a chopper also requires a pair of rather large and at least bronzed balls ... Or a size 15 combat boot in the arse to pry you from the door and into space.....Of course it may well be that upon landing said bronzed balls and cushioned by the brown sticky stuff you filled your trous with on the decent.
