ResidentSadist -> -= What in the world is a straight trans? =- (3/26/2017 9:19:18 PM)

I confess, I’m a little confused by the ‘Trans’ sexual ‘Orientation’ descriptions over on the CollarSpace side. I see profiles say they are a straight trans and it sorta' makes me wonder . . .

Does a “straight” male "trans" sleep with boys because he identifies as a girl and straight girls sleep with boys? . . . or does he sleep with girls because he was born a boy and straight boys sleep with girls?

If a straight male trans is sleeping with girls, doesn't that actually make him a lesbian trans . . . which is gay not straight?

Does a “gay” male trans sleep with girls because he identifies as a girl and gay girls sleep with girls?

Is everyone just a lesbian trans to CollarSpace from one perspective or another or what?

Does the sexual "orientation" (preference) associate to the alt gender identity or the birth gender?

They were queer,but they shifted.

I can also empathize with people who are trans-hippos. It's a growing sub group man.

This is the best I've got.

The best that I know, gender and sexual orientation are two different things. Who a person is sexually attracted to doesn't really have all of that much to do with gender identity.

Best I've got.

A straight trans man is a man who likes women. But that better include trans women, or else that would make him a hypocrite, now wouldn't it?

@OP

I'm getting a migraine now.

I think it depends upon the meaning of "trans" since it can mean either transsexual or transvestite. If someone born male identifies as male and straight then he's interested in women and the trans part just means he enjoys dressing feminine.

ResidentSadist -> RE: -= What in the world is a straight trans? =- (3/27/2017 12:48:13 AM)

Yes - I should have worded the OP better. My bad, I should have double checked how they listed it. I remembered they said "orientation", and mistakenly assumed that was the sexuality preference box when in fact the "Orientation" box in the profiles is for BDSM role orientation like switch, slave, sub, dom. So they ask what "Gender" you want to list as. Then they ask what "Sexuality" you want to list. Hope that clears up the OP. Sorry for any confusion.

In the profiles they ask"
Gender: Any. Male. Female. Trans. Couple.
Sexuality: All. Straight. Bisexual. Gay. Lesbian.

@OP

I disagree.

Gender preference can and often includes genital preference. Not everyone is attracted to just the emotional aspects of the gender role, they have physical preferences too. I can only imagine that many transsexuals don't want a cock & balls on their woman where the pussy would normally be... even if they are equipped to the contrary themselves.

Of note, I presume that you are talking about a male transsexual... correct? A "trans man" is the term for a female transsexual. A bio female that identifies as a man (FTM).

ResidentSadist -> RE: -= What in the world is a straight trans? =- (3/27/2017 1:17:07 AM)

True... Transvestite is fetish, not a gender identity. Unfortunately CollarSpace does not spell it out. They only say "Trans". However, it is in the 'gender' box and transvestitism is not a gender. So I am sure they mean transsexual.

The biological gender choices are male, female, hermaphrodite.
The gender identity choices are male, female, hermaphrodite, transsexual . . . and there is this one guy who had tons of plastic surgery to look like an alien and he is having his genitals removed because he identifies as an alien . . . and some lady in the UK pushing for legislation because she identifies as a cat.

ResidentSadist -> RE: -= What in the world is a straight trans? =- (3/27/2017 1:32:06 AM)

. . . and what is with the Sexuality box choice of "All"? If your choices are - Straight - Bisexual - Gay - Lesbian & - All . . . how could you be straight & gay? And if 'gay' is meant to refer to male homosexuality verses female lesbian homosexuality, how can you be gay & lesbian. You can't be "all" since the terms are contradictory. Imagine someone claiming they are a straight bisexual gay lesbian... what the hell does that mean?

LisaSadistic -> RE: -= What in the world is a straight trans? =- (3/27/2017 1:45:45 AM)

You missed my point. If a trans man wants to be acknowledged as a man, then that person is likewise obligated to acknowledge trans women as women, or else that person is a hypocrite. Correct?

For example, part of a documentary I saw. A straight trans man is dissapointed that straight cis women will not date him. But of course, most straight cis women want someone with a penis attached. That's why they call themselves straight. So the trans man ends up dating lesbians but is resentful that the lesbians still identify as lesbian, even though he identifies as straight and as a man. He wants the validation of a straight cis woman seeing him as a man, regardless of his genitals. But he himself will not date trans women, even though he identifies as straight and they identify as women, because his own definition of straight, at least when applied to himself, includes wanting someone of a certain genital configuration. I'd say that's hypocritical.

I did miss your point. Thank you for explaining. I thought you meant attracted to.

Yes, I agree. They would be a hypocrite. Do you remember the name of the documentary? It sounds interesting.

No worries. To be honest, I'd have to ask just about anybody who used the sexuality 'all' description. Kind of a catch 22 because I don't tend to ask most people about their sex lives.

This is kind of nagging at me, though. I figure, with some of the posts I've made recently, there's more that a few people out there who would be just as happy to roast me with marshmallows, so one more opinion of mine that people don't like won't hurt.

I really don't know if I consider CM terribly trans* friendly. Don't get me wrong. There are absolutely some posters here that do their best to at least try to have empathy/compassion about trans* related issues. Even if it takes actual work to try to understand or attempt to learn more about something that is completely out of their personal experience. Considering the Lady Pact action figure comes with all of the original parts, I can't entirely grasp what it must feel like to be born in the wrong body.

Then, we have the other contingent. You see it on every dang thread that has anything to do with any trans* issue that gets brought up. There's some serious trans* hate that goes on around here. It's usually confined to P&R but these days, it's spilling out to the other forums, too. Heck, we've got a couple of posters slinging the 'tranny' insult to cis-het women, just because they think it's the worst thing they can come up with.

Read even one thread in P&R that has anything to do with the subject. Ask yourself if this would be the place you would recommend to your transgendered friend.

NoirMetal -> RE: -= What in the world is a straight trans? =- (3/27/2017 8:07:14 AM)

I'd recommend it to any Trans friend who understands homophobia. Conventional people have a hard time understanding crossovers. I have the feeling they would be better accepted by bisexuals and folks with a broader interest in sexual orientations. Not so much by purely straight people.

FR

My takeaway from this thread is that CM labels may not be the best tool for plumbing the complexities of gender identity. [;)]

shiftyw -> RE: -= What in the world is a straight trans? =- (3/27/2017 9:38:38 AM)

I think CS descriptors are stupid- always have.

To me- a gay trans man would mean a transsexual person who identifies as a male who is also attracted to males. Vice versa with female pronouns. Trans hasn't really meant transvestite for a hot minute outside of kink.

As far as "all" is concerned- pansexual os the term I would use. Which differs from bi in that it includes intersex individuals and as far as I understand basically disregards genitalia as a preference.

I'm going to catch flak for this I'm sure. Between LGBT, binary, non binary, pronouns, gender fluid, gender non-conforming, asexual, cisgender, gender dysphoria ... Who the fuck knows what gender identity is what? People of diverse gender have subdivided themselves into a ridiculous amount of categories and I've grown apothetic. I'm supportive but Jesus .... Let the hate mail begin.

shiftyw -> RE: -= What in the world is a straight trans? =- (3/27/2017 11:32:51 AM)

don't kinky and BDSM people do the same thing though?

DesFIP -> RE: -= What in the world is a straight trans? =- (3/27/2017 12:03:41 PM)

The problem with declaring anything sexual as hypocritical is that it ignores chemistry/attraction. If you don't feel desire towards someone, you can't just manufacture it. Life would be a lot easier if we could.

NoirMetal -> RE: -= What in the world is a straight trans? =- (3/27/2017 12:25:14 PM)

Is it really hypocritical to say you have no problem with trans whatever, you just don't want to date someone with a dick?
