It really does depend on where your main interests lie, as you can get pretty specific on certain things. For example, if I had a boy who knew how to change the oil and give the car a tune-up, that would be a plus, but not something I would require a boy to know in order to be considered. An auto mechanics class might be expensive, just so that he could do what I can pay for every 3 months for $20 at Jiffy Lube. And he would be taking the car over there anyway! *Smile* But learning some basics about gardening, aromatherapy and massage, good, all around cooking and knowing how to set a nice table, as well as the often longed for manicure and pedicure talents and secretarial skills are lovely items to bring to the table. Other things to consider are the ability to paint a room, fix a minor plumbing problem, replace an electrical breaker, and find your way around a grocery store. Many of these things are very practical skills, and you might be surprised at how many boys don't have the foggiest idea that this might be part of wonderful service, yet there is no necessity for a formal class! Edited to add: You are right about the wealth of information on the web. This is precisely what My jonathan is doing right now as a part of his weekly tasks. He is given a topic to cover, and then he reads and studies and writes an essay. Thanks for the tip about the Tide site! I am sure he will thank you himself, also!
