Watched the premire on showtime tonight.

Okay

Agent Cooper is still stuck in the dark lodge
His Doppleganger (possessed by Bob?) is running around America either killing people or causing other people to kill people.

The lady with the log is on oxygen.

Laura Palmer is still around although dead.

Some geeks is sitting in a loft in New York City watching a blast container which is connected via a tunnel to an identical blast container suspended about 40 stories above the side walk (or ten, cant tell with the funky camera crap)

Agent Cooper cant leave the black lodge until the doppleganger comes back

And someone wants the doppleganger to go back to the black lodge so that Bob can get out as well.

And there is something called the "arm" evolving in the black lodge.

Okay, for the bazillionth time, David Lynch writes nothing until he has downed a gallon of tequila and five or six hits of acid.

You do know that his usual method for roughing a story out is to plot individual scenes on index cards, and then put them together like a jigsaw when he's got fifty or so written? Works surprisingly well for films, but a television storyline needs more of a framework, he suspects. Supposedly that's why it's taken him a quarter of a century to add anything further to Twin Peaks...

IF you think those were spoilers, then dude you really do not want to read the USA today article that came out 17 minutes after the show ended.

Seriously.

And considering that I thought at the end of the original series, agent cooper had been taken over by bob......

I mean, there it was Agent Cooper looking into a mirror and seeing Bob's face! Look for your self

That was made pretty clear in Fire Walk With Me as well, wasn't it?

Damn Jeff.
You said "Twin Peaks" and I assumed you were talking about Lucy's tits.

I thought so, but hey, after watching last night, and again this morning (which still has me confused as hell) I am coming to one inescapable conclusion....

Lynch has an inexhaustible supply of tequila and acid.

Seriously, Pulp Fiction was easier to follow.

I have spent years watching twin peaks reruns trying to figure out all the symbolism and logic jumps and just when I thought I had it figured out, this pops up and throws it all in the trash.

BUT, I have figured out one thing....

David Lynch is Donald Trump's life script writer!

The Arm was the short person in the black lodge... the one who danced around to the funky jazz music. I can't remember exactly where I heard that, either the show or the movie... but I think it was the show.

I was mostly talking about people who might want to go into it without knowing any of the details about the new episodes.

Anyways, I thought it was absolutely brilliant. I'm a huge Lynch fan, especially of the later, much more 'out there' stuff, and he has already set this up to be a masterpiece. I enjoyed absolutely everything about it... it feels like the Mulholland Drive version of Twin Peaks. That scene in the 'glass box room' was truly horrifying.

The biggest shock to me was how it didn't feel quite as Twin Peaksy as the first 2 seasons. There wasn't a lot of warmth, there was sex and profanity, and there were so many long takes that gave it a much artier feel than the TV show ever had... probably because there were so many different locations and so many new characters. Seeing brightly lit New York city in a Twin Peaks episode was really jarring... it is no longer about the town and its people and seems to be more about the supernatural aspects of it all. And seeing how old everyone is now was weird.

Lynch is big on transcendental meditation, which probably explains why he has gotten more creative as he ages... well, the fact that he also gets to do whatever he wants probably also helps.
I am already convinced that this is going to be the greatest thing that has ever been on TV.

Any good jeff? I cant actually remember what happened in the original i only watched bits of it to see if Sherilyn Fenn got her tits out - did she? And i could have a bit of a wank - oh come on surely not just me!

is there anything they will not remake these days - so is this a remake, reboot, continuing where it left off?

It's a continuation of the same story.
The same people are working on it, except this time David Lynch is directing every single episode, which actually makes it better.

He is calling it an 18 hour film.

Which does bear out Jeff's acid and tequilla thesis: that was what Jodorowsky had in mind for Dune, was it not?

As much as I do admit that I was attempting to be humorous, I have to admit to writing all the assignments for a college creative writing class under the influence of heavy duty pain killers and coffee (I had some major surgery on my back just before the start of that particular class.)

Whatever works to get the words flowing.

(The Lynch on tequila and acid thing just makes me think of Jodorowsky as his unmade Dune looks a lot more interesting than the crappy one Lynch made in the '80s...)

Oh wow this show is the greatest thing I have ever seen.
Episode 8 was INCREDIBLE.

I will be watching this again in its entirety when it's finished.

After the last episode, I amend my opinion of the writing team....

Those people are on a mix of Tequila, LSD, angel dust, and some sort of fermented prune juice.

Because those peoples be nuts!

I think it's great fun, and still has its own unique atmosphere and vibe. And now the arm, who was the little strange guy, is the tree in the black lodge. Apparently because the little guy went nuts in real life and they couldn't or wouldn't cast him in this sequel.

I was always disappointed that agent Cooper didn't take up with Audrey; they had great chemistry in the show. Per google, the reason that never happened was that Laura Flynn Boyle aka Donna, who was the real life girlfriend of the Cooper actor at the time, put the cabosh to it out of jealousy. And she didn't make it to the sequel

So it looks like I was right.
The Return was absolutely the best thing I have ever seen on TV.

Good lord that ending!

I know it's not for everyone, but my head is currently exploding trying to digest the brilliance of everything I have just witnessed.
I am going to watch the whole thing again in one go very very soon.

I don't want to spoil it for people who haven't seen it, but sufficed to say I have never seen anything like it before and it is brilliant how it keeps getting deeper and deeper and more and more creative with its mythology. Really really really hope there is a season 4... but I don't know if my brain can take it.

You should see/read the Reddit threads deconstructing every second and every clue! I loved it too; nothing else like it, and the atmosphere still gets me. David Lynch is 70 and so many main character actors have died it seems likely we already have the series complete. Once this season is out on DVDs I'm going to buy the series; it's the perfect binge show for a dark and stormy night.
