A friend of mine asked me to accompany her today to help choose a grill for the deck/outdoor kitchen she is building.

I was happy to accommodate the request.

So, she, her four year old son, and I went to Lowe's to look at grills.

While our attention was on the grills, the four year old wondered off on his own, but returned shortly with one of the flat carts used to carry lumber loaded with home fire extinguishers.

The grill salesmen thought this was hilarious, he associated the extinguishers with the grill purchase, but that was not the case.

It seems that boy had asked some time ago about getting a pet dragon (after seeing "The Hobbit, Desolation of Smaug".)

Now his mother, not wanting to crush his imagination told him, using the movie as an example that "Dragons breath fire and would burn the house down."

So, upon his return with the flat loaded with 8 12 packs of home fire extinguishers, he looked at his mother and said "Mom, I knew if you gave me the time I would figure out how to keep the dragon from burning the house down."

We put the extinguishers back, all but four.

On the way home, we stopped by the pet store, she bought an extremely large terrarium and a relatively small bearded dragon lizard. She figures by the time he figures out the pet will not be sprouting wings and breathing fire, he will have stopped believing in dragons.

Now, I personally think that the child had the right idea, at least as far as he knew about dragons, and his mother found a nice solution.

The terrarium is set up as the perfect lizard play ground, with a fire extinguisher at each corner.

That's adorable! And great parenting.

Bearded Dragons are great. I am going to buy a leash for mine (yep, they make leashes for them) and take him on short walks. Honestly, it's not the weirdest thing I've planned, not even close.
