Fans of Bobby Flay are used to watching the Food Network star throwdown in the kitchen for his popular show.

But the celebrity chef is moving things to the living room in a lawsuit.

In court papers filed on June 8 in the Supreme Court of the State of New York, County of New York, Flay accuses Jamie Stern Design of delivering him a sectional couch that is unsuitable for his needs.

The 52-year-old culinary star is demanding his money back - and then some.

Flay, who paid $19,406.35 for the custom leather piece, is asking for double that amount in addition to interest and further relief as the court deems just and proper.

The reason, according to the court filing, is that 'the sofa was deficient and not suitable for use in plaintiff's residence as it was intolerably uncomfortable to sit on for any extended period of time.'

Flay states in court papers that he placed his order for the couch in 2015 and it was delivered early the next year.

Once it arrived, he notified Jamie Stern Design about his issues with the sectional, according to the filing.

'Despite numerous complaints by plaintiff, defendant failed to either repair the Sofa or reimburse plaintiff for costs of the unusable sofa,' reads the complaint.

The court papers were first obtained by LLNYC.

The court papers also go after the sectional for failing to perform its required job.

'The Sofa breached its implied warranty because it would not be used for the ordinary purpose for which a sofa is use,' states the filing.

It is unclear if Jamie Stern Design has responded to the complaint yet. The company did not respond to a request for comment.

Flay, who has been in a one year relationship with 'Graves' actress Helene Yorke, 32, is no stranger to a courtroom.

He and ex-wife Stephanie March, 42, battled for months over their pre-nuptial agreement after 10 years of marriage back in 2015, before finally coming to terms in July of that year.

The two said in joint statement soon after: 'We have come to an amicable divorce settlement.

'We look forward to putting this difficult time behind us and we ask that you respect our privacy as we move forward.'

March was able to get more than the $5,000 a month in alimony she was promised in the couple's pre-nuptial agreement, but Flay was allowed to keep the couple's Manhattan apartment and Hamptons home.

In court papers, March accused Flay of having a string of affairs throughout their marriage, including one with actress January Jones of 'Mad Men' fame.

Only in Hollyweird. Reminds me of that frivolous lawsuit that judge made a stink over, all because his dry cleaners misplaced his pants or something.

I'd be willing to bet that Flay failed to specify to the designers that the couch should be comfortable. Most designer goods are meant to be seen and not actually used. If there was a contract of any kind I'd guess that there is no mention of comfort in it. If Flay wanted comfort he should have gone to Lazy Boy or Kroehler instead of some over-priced designer.

My question, why didn't he try the couch out before paying!! How do you reach 50+ years old without knowing how to pick out beds, couches, etc. I bet he'd sue if his mattress wasn't comfortable *headdesk*

The article mentions it was custom made, which means contract, and they probably would have contacted him, asking about how firm he wanted the cushions to be, what color, etc. Once he pays I'd say they are no longer responsible. At the very least they could let him return the couch, refunding a percent of what he paid, but TWICE what he paid, that's just being a turd.

I agree, you sometimes have to sacrifice comfort for aesthetics, and a couch like that screams aesthetics.

Two points

1) its ugly as fuck

2) you can look at it and see that it would be about as comfortable as sitting on a pitch fork.

FR:
The built in pouffe is a particularly stupid piece of planning: anybody dumb enough to think that was a good idea has no business suing a crafting firm for being uncritical enough to follow his design.
