The lawsuit has to do with an editorial the NYT ran on June 14 that falsely smeared Palin as inciting the 2011 shooting of Democratic Rep. Gabby Giffords by a mentally ill man. There is no evidence to support the NYT’s implication that Palin played a role in inciting the Giffords shooting. (RELATED: NYT Uses GOP Shooting To Falsely Attack Sarah Palin With Debunked Conspiracy Theory) “Mrs. Palin brings this action to hold The Times accountable for defaming her by publishing a statement about her that it knew to be false: that Mrs. Palin was responsible for inciting a mass shooting at a political event in January 2011,” Palin’s suit states. “Specifically, on June 14, 2017, The Times Editorial Board, which represents the ‘voice’ of The Times, falsely stated as a matter of fact to millions of people that Mrs. Palin incited Jared Loughner’s January 8, 2011, shooting rampage at a political event in Tucson, Arizona, during which he shot nineteen people, severely wounding United States Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, and killing six, including Chief U.S. District Court Judge John Roll and a nine-year-old girl.” The lawsuit states that the paper “published and promoted its Editorial Board’s column despite knowing that the linchpin of its ‘sickening pattern’ of politically-incited shootings was the false assertion that Mrs. Palin incited Loughner to murder six people, among them a child and federal judge, and seriously wound numerous others.” (RELATED: NYT Has Been Pushing Palin-Giffords Falsehood For Years) It goes on to state: “As the public backlash over The Times’ malicious column mounted, it responded by making edits and ‘corrections’ to its fabricated story, along with half-hearted Twitter apologies–none of which sufficiently corrected the falsehoods that the paper published. NYT retracted the story when the printed it 6 years ago and they go back to pushing it again, they already knew it was a lie. As for her pulling it she didn't want it to be the center of the debate. Remember she sued them over this same story six years ago but made the mistake of dropping the suit when they retracted the story.

Part of the problem with the idiot fucking Leftists in this forum are comments like these which demonstrate their complete inability to think, reason or act with integrity. I think Palin's a fucking idiot, but I also think that newspapers need to be held to account for the shit they publish. A failure to do so is why most media has zero credibility with the public. There's been a dearth of factual unbiased reporting to the point where MSNBC, CNN, the Washington Post and the New York Times have become every bit as partisan and lacking in credibility as Fox News. That's the only reason why Trump's constant harping on "fake news" resonates. Because everyone knows these media organs are lacking in integrity and impartiality. Honestly, to be a Leftist is to cling to fantasies in order to try and cope with reality. You are every bit as bad as the partisan GOP fucktards who love Trump. You exhibit the same characteristics. An interesting note: Ever taken public statements about men by feminists and reversed the genders? You know who they end up sounding exactly like? A Trump supporter. It's true formerly reliable newspapers have become partisan, opinion, and poorly sourced and reported. But that's not the only reason Trump's silly "fake news" has traction: people are perfectly willing to hold up Breitbart and Rush and Beck (let alone FOX) as gospel truth, never knowing or caring that Breitbart in particular makes no effort at all to be accurate or balanced or well-supported factually. And that's "real news" to Trump and his train. "News" has come to mean "what I happen to think." We can even see it right here. One poster, for example, has a pattern of posting an opinion, then going on for pages claiming "I already explained it to you people" as if sharing one's take ends the exploration, with no examination of the actual point and evidence raised. And he's concerned the other posters are arrogant and smug. (Well, they may well be as well, but the point here is the sheer irony). That same poster, for example, noted that everywhere he looks he sees confirmation bias (paraphrasing) -- and the irony there flew over his head. I know someone on Facebook who posted a similar statement as a joke. Inquiry, analysis, exploration, examining causes/effects, considering other factors -- these don't interest today's "news" reader. And frankly, you're generally pretty quick to dismiss everything that comes after your statement of opinion as well.
