If we're onto interior decor, I'd say venetian blinds, but those are back in now: maybe dimmer switches time will come again as well...

Jalousie windows with hand cranks.
Better yet, hand cranked car windows with the little 'wing window'

Telephone party lines...

I just remembered party lines the other day (OMFG, remember when assholes would talk all day long when you needed to use the line?), and was explaining them to my friend's kid. I've also introduced her to the outhouse at camp, and tilling the garden with a 100 yr old steel cultivator (which incredibly, she enjoys using because the motorized rototiller terrifies her). She's also learning to use the hand crank water pump at camp. The first crank is really hard for her to get started (slight frustrated tantrum) but once the water comes out she thinks it's cool.

Televisions that came with no remote control. You had to stand up, walk over to the TV, and turn the dial to change the channels. Of course, there were only 4 channels to choose from, ABC, CBS, NBC, and PBS.

When I was little, I was the remote control.

When did the huge boxes with a single button and a cable that plugged into the telly come in? I'm sure they had those by the '70s...

Being outdoors or away from home with no phone in your pocket, or not being able to use a phone in an emergency unless you had two dimes...that was just great for when you had car trouble or needed a lift, and had to walk forever (in the rain or hot weather) just to FIND a payphone, then listen to the line ring and ring and ring hoping...PRAYING that someone was home to answer the phone. If they weren't you had to call back repeatedly until someone heard it, or call neighbors, or finally call around to other family and friends until you finally found SOMEONE to come help...then getting home to find out Dad was RIGHT OUTSIDE in the garden the entire time and couldn't hear the kitchen phone ringing a thousand times.

Kids nowadays have no experience with hardship like this (which builds character, patience, and resilience), so when they run into a teeny problem that needs effort to solve, they have a COMPLETE MELTDOWN.

That's what made me think of it. A friend was talking about being a kid and having to stand by the TV and switch between the 3 channels they got until Dad figured out which he wanted to watch.
