Televisions that came with no remote control. You had to stand up, walk over to the TV, and turn the dial to change the channels. Of course, there were only 4 channels to choose from, ABC, CBS, NBC, and PBS.

Being outdoors or away from home with no phone in your pocket, or not being able to use a phone in an emergency unless you had two dimes...that was just great for when you had car trouble or needed a lift, and had to walk forever (in the rain or hot weather) just to FIND a payphone, then listen to the line ring and ring and ring hoping...PRAYING that someone was home to answer the phone. If they weren't you had to call back repeatedly until someone heard it, or call neighbors, or finally call around to other family and friends until you finally found SOMEONE to come help...then getting home to find out Dad was RIGHT OUTSIDE in the garden the entire time and couldn't hear the kitchen phone ringing a thousand times. Kids nowadays have no experience with hardship like this (which builds character, patience, and resilience), so when they run into a teeny problem that needs effort to solve, they have a COMPLETE MELTDOWN.

A friend was talking about being a kid and having to stand by the TV and switch between the 3 channels they got until Dad figured out which he wanted to watch.
