BamaD -> Seven cops shot in 24 hours. (8/21/2017 1:12:44 AM)

2 where ambushed and killed in FL.

2 others were wounded in Fl

2 were wounded in Pa

1 was wounded in Ney York. He was called by the attackers mother who assured them that he was
A nonviolent
and
B Unarmed

The attacker used a shotgun on the cop, but he was mentally ill so I guess that attack didn't count.,

The way the press has been reporting everything for the last few years, and especially the Charlottesville event, I'm sort of surprised it wasn't more.

tj444 -> RE: Seven cops shot in 24 hours. (8/21/2017 11:32:56 AM)

a while back I googled the stats on how frequently cops are killed in the US,.. the site i went to had gone thru a decade or more of info and iirc it averages out to 1 cop is killed every 63 hours...

Trends are up and down year to year.

For example, 2015 marked a record low with 16 officers killed by gunfire during the first six months, which makes 2016 look particularly high in comparison, says Seth Stoughton, a former policeman and University of South Carolina law professor. (2015 shows 2.5 per month)

Over the last 10 years, an average of 27 (4.5 a month) officers were killed by gunfire that was not accidental during the same period, according to Mr Stoughton, citing the FBI's Law Enforcement Officers Killed and Assaulted data.

However:

Police in the US have shot and killed more people in every week this year, than are reportedly shot and killed by German police in an entire year.

Behind the numbers: The Counted database shows that the first week of 2015 had the fewest fatal police shootings of any this year, with 13.

The German Police University concluded in 2012 that German police had killed six people by gunshot in 2011 and seven in 2012.

According to the German data and the Guardian’s count, more unarmed black men (19) have been fatally shot by US police in 2015 than citizens of any race, armed or unarmed, fatally shot in Germany during all of 2010 and 2011 (15).

The US population is roughly four times that of Germany, and according to the World Bank, the US has a per capita intentional homicide rate five times that of Germany.

Something is terribly wrong in America:

England and Wales...55 fatal police shootings in 24 years.....
In Iceland, with a population of 323,764, there's been 1 fatal police shooting in 71 years.....
In Stockton, Cal., population of 298,118, police shot and killed 3 people in the first 5 months of 2015.

Total in the US 59...fatal police shootings in the first 24 days of 2015.....there's your 2.5 fatal police killings everyday by police. Approx. one every 9 hours.

Germany again: 15 people of any race, armed or unarmed killed by police in two years (2010-2011)
US: 15 unarmed black men shot and killed by police in the first 5 months of 2015.

Must be that great American exceptionalism coming on strong.

There you go. You can't go long without your conspiracies. It's because of American Exceptionalsim that cops are shooting people. Cops wake up every morning just looking to shoot people because there is just no other explanation is there.

Let's look at Stockton. Do you know how many gangs are operating in Stockton? Do you know if any of those people shot deserve it as compared to your silly implied...well actually stated...assumptions? In Stockton the gangs are so bad that very few churches will even perform funeral services for dead gang bangers because when they do hundreds of live gang bangers show up armed and start fucking with the families. Now, you tell me, is that in the charter for American Exceptionalsim? Is that a sign that the cops are just wondering the streets looking for people to shoot? Or is that actually a sign that America needs to work on...yes...being made great again?

So you don't see a particular problem.

FR

As of today we can add a judge. killed by the father of a man convicted of rape in the judges court.
Since a probation officer killed him I guess that means it is even, right Eddy.

BamaD -> RE: Seven cops shot in 24 hours. (8/21/2017 5:57:40 PM)

FR

Correction the judge doesn't seem to have died so this cancels out the next law enforcement person killed.
After all there have to be as many dead on one side as the other, right.

I saw something that said the judge returned fire.

If I were a judge, I would have my glock on the bench in plain view in and easy reach.

Is this your judge or another?

He may have but it was a probation officer who killed the attacker.

At least the judge lived and the attacker didn't.

Nice article. Thankful the judge is ok.

l would keep it under my robes (or concealed ) so they wouldn't know for sure I could fight back.

I'm a retired phone repairman. Sent to fix some lines in a pawn shop in a not so nice neighborhood long time ago. The guy counting the money had a sawed off shotgun on his desk. The 4 or 5 salesmen all had 357 magnums on their hip. Not a single problem ever.

Bad for the health.

I felt safer there than fixing phones in a Milwaukee precinct.

I always feel safe in pawn shops for that reason.
