jlf1961 -> Can someone explain why.... (9/9/2017 11:32:18 AM)

Painting the walls of the living room in the colors of the favorite teams of those living in the house a bad idea?

I mean sis likes the Pittsburgh stinkers, bro in law likes the Bengals, and I like Greenbay.

So one wall black and yellow, one wall green and yellow and one wall orange and black.

That was the latest of my suggestions shot down.

Also nixed were:

tiger stripe camo
whore house red (a tribute to my late mother's favorite finger nail polish color, her name for it.)
Jack Daniels wall paper
wolf murals
dragon murals
classic muscle car wallpaper
Wall paper featuring reproductions of WW2 nose art (what is wrong with a bunch of nude women with names like "Booby Trap" under them?)
Wall paper with world maps as depicted in the middle ages

Some people have no sense of originality.....

I LOVE either the booby girls or the medieval maps motif...kinda quirky but hey, I also love seamed stockings (classy feel).

Hire some local artist to paint a mural.

I like the wall tapestries.... cheap and replaceable...my arthritis wont let me paint, so they would be my choice for now. so many choices too.
I used to love wallpapering, but its so damn expensive and kills my back,

Too damn busy to live with that many colors on the walls.

Google pictures of Diana Vreelands famous red room before you decide to do it.

Now, the professional suggestion for choosing wall color is to pick which piece of art will be the focal point. Then choose one of the minor colors and do it in that. It will serve to unify the room especially if you get some other small items in that color. A throw pillow, a vase or candy dish.

I had red in my living room way before it became popular. In fact it was so unpopular that I had to make my own curtains, and have the paint mixed up for me. I them swapped that out for blue for a while. I no longer have colours on my walls. My son does in his room, but he has to live with that. Everywhere in my house is now neutral, and then I choose other things to colour accent. It's so much easier to swap out when you change your mind.

Also, red paint is damn hard to cover!

Needles

Maybe a pale orange rather than red, Jeff? That'd be a bit easier to cover if you decide you hate it, as n&p says.

My living room was red years ago, also. Not entirely - I had a chair rail along the walls, so the bottom half was a deep, dark, rich, whore red. I loved it. I didn't have to worry about painting over it. I just moved.

I painted all the walls in another room in another house a cinnamon-like color - deep and rich, but not quite as red of a red. I loved that one too, even more than the first. I didn't have to paint over that, either. I moved.

I painted my bedroom a deep green once. This was a rental - surprised as heck my landlord let me do it. So I didn't paint over it - I just moved.

And I put green checked wallpaper up in my kitchen in another house. I can't tell you how long it took me to match up the little squares from one piece of wallpaper to the other. But it looked great. I knew when I did it that it would be a complete bitch to remove. So I didn't. I moved.

I am like needlesandpins, I think. I used to have lots of color on my walls. Now, I think I'm more partial to a neutral background.

I actually like the middle ages map idea.

Well, the color was settled a kind of a light powder blue.

JVoV -> RE: Can someone explain why.... (10/8/2017 10:38:49 PM)

Powder blue goes very well with a red somewhere between burgundy and maroon (as in furniture, or at least throw pillows and accents; keep the red matching), and a metallic gold trim (picture frames, candle holders on the wall, etc).

This is the color scheme I've preferred since I was old enough to choose something other than Star Wars.

MasterG2kTR -> RE: Can someone explain why.... (10/9/2017 6:39:11 PM)

if it's your house......do what ever the hell you want and screw everybody else!!

besides you can't go wrong with Packers Green & Gold

You say you're over Star Wars, but isn't that Boba Fett's colour scheme?

technically it is half mine, I am buying it in partnership with my sister, who admittedly will have it pretty much to herself when I finish the renovations on another piece of property that has a former SAC communications bunker and 1950's early 60's era Nike Sam complex on it.

Since the two structures are connected, my goal is to convert both into a nice comfortable home that will withstand a near miss by a nuke.

Did you get finished with all the flooring? I know that would be a bugger to work with.

Yep, in the main part of the house and the munchmonster's room (of course now we are fighting to keep munch from running through the house on the new floors wearing only socks, and sliding into walls, doors, people....)

DesFIP -> RE: Can someone explain why.... (10/11/2017 2:16:23 PM)

Now that’s a losing battle.

It's cheaper than taking the lad to a skating rink, isn't it?
