Taking the knee is showing respect and not disrespectful. The Flag and the Constitution are sacred are the arguments paraded whilst conveniently overlooking the fact they are expressing freedom of speech. At least they have not taken up arms.

The self proclaimed reason is to refuse to respect the nation and you say this?

Trump's Mostly False claim that NFL ratings are 'way down'

http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2017/sep/24/donald-trump/trumps-mostly-false-claim-nfl-ratings-are-way-down/

Football (and NASCAR) are a way of life for the fans who follow it. Nothing is going to change that.

Certainly not this silly tempest in a tea pot.

Or tantrum in a trump tweak storm.

The claim isn't false.
And yes it will change viewing habits, I only watch college football.

Sorry, but the "original kneeler" as you put was protesting about black people being shot to death by policemen, so it has EVERYTHING to do with color...

Also I don't think an employer can take away someone's constitutional rights, period.

I think that Kapaernick has a valid pont. Stand and respect the National anthem or the flag, or whatever, IF IT DESERVES RESPECT. The way things are right now what is there to rspect?

It's just like the Presidency. You should respect that, but if the holder of the office doesn't respect it, then why should I/we?

And someone, please, tell me how taking a knee during the national anthem is disrespecting anything.

I read an interesting comparison between Kapaernick and Tebow and what the differences are between one kneeling and the other, and why one is OK and the other is not.

A lot has to do with color...

sorry---little or nothing to do with color and its a part of the conditions of employment.

when the heavily expected and historical convention is to stand, and the standing is done as a show of respect, then kneeling runs contrary to it.

that is especially so when the original "kneeler" makes statements somewhat to that affect.

They have the right to protest for their opinion.
The employer has the right to control their actions while on the job.
If they wore Klan buttons while at work you would support their firing
but since they support your issue you are against it.

I know the feeling but Brady is small potatoes to the cheating going on and did. Even his own team (management) got caught. Not to derail but there's much worse cheating going on than what they let us see. But, it's by ownership and staff. so.....?

the CRITICISMS of him have nothing to do with color, which was heavily implied in the post I replied to.

Oh hey remember when it was always the right-wing rednecks who were all about standing up and fighting for freedom?
I guess that they actually meant the freedoms that they personally choose for everyone.

And threatening to shoot the uppity democrat in the white house to protect America's freedoms, don't forget.

FR color me shocked but Dale Jr came out in support of protesters, referring to a King quote that points out when you take away all means of peaceful protest, all that's left is violence.

NASCAR owners threaten to fire those who protest during national anthem

by: Matt Naham, Rare.us Updated: Sep 24, 2017 - 9:30 PM

LOUDON, N.H. - It appeared no drivers, crew or other team members participated in a protest during the national anthem to start the NASCAR Cup series race Sunday.

Several team owners and executives said they wouldn’t tolerate anyone in their organizations protesting. They could be fired if they had.

“It’ll get you a ride on a Greyhound bus,” Richard Childress, who was Dale Earnhardt’s long time team owner, said of protesting. “Anybody that works for me should respect the country we live in. So many people gave their lives for it. This is America.”

As the NFL, NBA and MLB have seen players, owners and teams protest and remark on social media in the wake of President Donald Trump's comments Friday and throughout the weekend about athletes who peacefully protest during the national anthem, several NASCAR owners weighed in.

Richard Petty was asked if drivers protesting during the anthem would be fired, and he said, “You’re right.”

“Anybody that don’t stand up for the anthem oughta be out of the country. Period. What got ’em where they’re at? The United States,” Petty said.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.<br>

JFK, but close enough.

Then he added, “Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable — JFK.”

Yep, it was Kennedy. I don't know why I said King.

since the employer is getting paid by the taxpayer on both ends - namely sponsorship by the military and though subsidies from the state and local governments the only "issue" they are looking out for is their own. In case u hadn't noticed the klan is a private political group (at best) and the protests have neither the DFL or gop as its target.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/defense-military-tributes-professional-sports_us_5639a04ce4b0411d306eda5e

In Part:
Overall, 50 teams across the five major professional leagues had contracts with the military, including 18 NFL teams that received more than $5.6 million over the four-year span. Ten MLB teams took nearly $900,000, and eight teams each from the NBA and MLS had similar contracts. Six NHL teams received money, and the Air Force paid more than $1.5 million to NASCAR.

So I see it as NASCAR making sure nothing upsets their military payments and their swag revenue that's heavily flag skewed. Paid Patriotism drives (pun!) the franchise, and is good business for them.

I'm betting if the klan could pony up the cash to do the same without it being paid to the lawsuit they lost....I'm sure they would be hanging around the racetracks more. (bad joke intended.)

I wouldnt be surprised if the klan already recruits close to the "race" tracks. (also pun intended.)
