NASCAR owners threaten to fire those who protest during national anthem

LOUDON, N.H. - It appeared no drivers, crew or other team members participated in a protest during the national anthem to start the NASCAR Cup series race Sunday.

Several team owners and executives said they wouldn’t tolerate anyone in their organizations protesting. They could be fired if they had.

“It’ll get you a ride on a Greyhound bus,” Richard Childress, who was Dale Earnhardt’s long time team owner, said of protesting. “Anybody that works for me should respect the country we live in. So many people gave their lives for it. This is America.”

As the NFL, NBA and MLB have seen players, owners and teams protest and remark on social media in the wake of President Donald Trump's comments Friday and throughout the weekend about athletes who peacefully protest during the national anthem, several NASCAR owners weighed in.

Richard Petty was asked if drivers protesting during the anthem would be fired, and he said, “You’re right.”

“Anybody that don’t stand up for the anthem oughta be out of the country. Period. What got ’em where they’re at? The United States,” Petty said.

So there has been no issue with nascar drivers kneeling so they get out in front of it to announce they will fire anyone who dares...
seems reasonable...
is nascar losing watchers or goers?
How many "Blacks" run in nascar?
Seems like only four black drivers have driven in NASCAR's top national series. ever.
Sounds like a publicity stunt.

You are assuming only black people would care about BLM.

There were many white people in support of it too and would consider kneeling to support their black friends.

It's actually a brilliant move on the part of NASCAR. For one they don't have many black drivers, so they aren't going to step on many toes by doing this. More importantly NASCAR's core fan base is exactly the type who would be offended by the whole kneeling fad. NASCAR has been losing fans due to some poorly thought out changes to their format and high ticket pricing. The NFL and NBA are offending a lot of people through kneeling and NASCAR must be figuring on picking up the fans turned off by other sports. They really have nothing to lose.

Not necessarily a publicity stunt as some of you seem to read it.........it's like Unionism (I know that's a word to stir up some of the mini-minds) which isn't all about the workers grabbing all they can, while they can. A lot of it is to do with the next generation of workers and improving conditions for them, so kneeling may just be a way of helping them and maybe bringing their ongoing plight to the attention of the world, or at least the population of America.

And someone, please, tell me how taking a knee during the national anthem is disrespecting anything.

I read an interesting comparison between Kapaernick and Tebow and what the differences are between one kneeling and the other, and why one is OK and the other is not.

A lot has to do with color...

Personally, it has nothing to do with colour.

IF a white person kneels, that white person will receive alot of flap too.

I mean, sports people especially, they are expected to behave patriotic. This is the same in any country.

I mean, if athletes used their athletic platform to protest political stuffs, I reckon they would have gotten alot of flap over here too.

sorry---little or nothing to do with color and its a part of the conditions of employment.

when the heavily expected and historical convention is to stand, and the standing is done as a show of respect, then kneeling runs contrary to it.

that is especially so when the original "kneeler" makes statements somewhat to that affect.

If you look at nascar viewership and look in the stand at races their fan base is declining all on its own, and it will be even worse at the end of the season when Dale Earnhardt Jr retires...l have never put my ha d over my heart or took my ha off at a nascar race and no one has ever said a word to me... I now my head and stand at attention, as I was taught in the military.

The NFL players have a union, nascar doesn't... just saying

If you're to stand for the National Anthem, taking a knee isn't standing. That can be, and is being, taken as disrespectful to the flag, the country, and the men and women who have fought and died, and/or risked their lives for that flag and what it stands for.

What article did you read? Will you link it to us here, please?

I did a quick search and came up with a lot of stuff that didn't really answer my one big question: Did Tebow kneel during the National Anthem? I know he'd kneel after a scoring drive, but I don't know if he knelt during the National Anthem. If he didn't, then race likely has nothing to do with this (although race and/or religion might have something to do with this one).
