I was actually looking for something else on this topic (that I never found) but I did find this, excerpted from Humanity in Action. Never heard of them, so I make no claims about the site or the article, but below is exactly what I'd like to say, except they say it better.

“A good joke provides tension, and then, release of that tension,” says Greg Giraldo, a Harvard Law School graduate turned comic who hosts Comedy Central’s Friday Night with Greg Giraldo show. “You build the tension by saying things that are controversial. The release is the laugh. The bigger the surprise or insight in your joke, the bigger the laugh. This anatomy of tension and release ensures that the comic is going to discuss material that is at the fringe of what polite society will talk about. "

This is why comedians joke about things the rest of us don't joke about. Because it works.

On another note, I truly think comedians are by far the most incredible, talented, brave entertainers there are. To get up and make people laugh and think using only your words (prop comics are shit) is inspiring. Intelligent comedians provide valuable social commentary. When a comedian tells a joke about a rape - if they're any good, it's not actually a joke about a rape.

First of all, you don't know me, or my life, and I don't owe that to you. But if you want to stay ignorant, have the fuck at it.

Dude, I can promise you something. I might be stupid, but I sure as sh^t ain't ignorant. By definition, ignorance is a lack of education. I may not have 'book smarts' like you, but I do pretty well.

Keep thinking that boys don't get molested.
Men don't get raped.
Males can't be sexually harassed in the workplace, or school.

Where in the holy living f^ck did that come from?

Do you really think there is another chick with home grown tits who HASN'T supported male victims more? Dude, just 'cause you got junk in the front, doesn't give you the corner on the market.

quote:

Own that victim tag, cuz it works for you. I didn't like it worth a damn.

I don't like it, either. It doesn't 'work for me'. If I could just not? That would be AWESOME.

And I don't even know where to start on comedians. Richard Pryor? George Carlin? Roseanne? Ellen DeGeneres coming out? Chris Rock? Harvey Fierstein? Yeah, no 'hard subjects' there.

Well, we'll have to split the difference. You coming out as a gay man? I really do have a clue.

but you have sexual orientation, and I have fault. I'm not going to talk to you about that.

Let's talk about something else. Let's talk about why it's not funny.

Seems to me, there are some folks out there who are doing this thing I call the 'vindication process'. And, it's great. It's great when people FINALLY believe you. Holy crud! That stuff you were saying for YEARS??? Well, somebody wrote an article.

Now? You're valid. Now, you're seen. Oh, it wasn't enough when you said. Some journalist comes along, and it's all ok.

Actually, ignorance is defined as a lack of knowledge or information; all of which is at your fingertips, should you choose to correct the situation so that you can make an informed opinion on the comedy being discussed. But you've chosen to judge the material without hearing or seeing it, which makes your opinion fairly bigoted and dishonest.

So act like it. Because on this matter, you don't seem compassionate at all, and you seem to be ignoring the thousands of men that are saying #MeToo right along with you.

Therapy. Medication. Prayer. Meditation. Good coffee. Self-help books. Self defense classes. Mace on a keyring. Concealed weapons permit & some relaxing target practice.

Bad things happen. We don't have to carry them with us forever. We don't have to be defined by them.

I didn't say a word about me coming out, so no clue wtf you're trying to say with that. When Ellen came out, it was a big fucking deal though. Comics of color take on racial issues. Comediennes take on women's issues. Gay comics take on gay issues.

Also no clue what orientation/fault is about. That must be some more of that home grown tits support. Maybe you mean how much easier it is to go to the police as a gay man, to report being raped. Yeah, not so much.

I haven't seen that. I've seen rage trying to mask pain. I've seen guilt, mostly over the powerlessness to do more at the time. Relief that the story is finally out there, so the victim count can stop. And no forgiveness for anyone that was involved in the setups or the cover-ups.

yes so you name them groupies, just to dismiss them.
its part of the problem.

Hmmm, are groupies a demographic group or is it just a description of a destructive behavior symptomatic of low self worth?

Anyway, it is a valid description of people exhibiting the behavior described.

noun: groupie; plural noun: groupies

a person, especially a young woman, who regularly follows a pop music group or other celebrity in the hope of meeting or getting to know them.

Why is it only funny when it's about Trump?

Trump's "pussy grabbing" and various quotes about how he would 'date' (yeah, right) his own daughter were not considered 'funny' at the time. Certainly not by the recipients of such attention.

What was 'funny,' in a sad way, is how people like you hold up this feculent featherbrain as "inspiration."

You can't be this stupid and ignorant and dull-wited as actually expect that no one will have some fun at the expense of buffoons who champion Trump and his mud box kicking.

First you yell proud, but then you complain. And complain. And never stop complaining, like that stupid A-hole from Canada. But people like you came out of the womb with every complaint to begin with. It's so obvious.

The USA nor any other region of the world has any use for whiney-bitch losers like you, who can't do anything else but champion other whiney-bitch losers, like Trump.

Because rump is a walking parody. just about every day he says something misinformed, incorrect, or just plain stupid, and that makes for him being the cannon fodder for parody ON the parody that IS rump.

And THAT we all know up front. donald rump is THE, and is A, ....running joke that isn't going to stop being such anytime soon.

harvey weinstein on the other hand, looked in many people's faces and donated money to women's causes while perpetrating the very crimes he was involving himself in charity work against.

evidently, not enough people knew that up front....... and for that betrayal of trust, and the crimes if/when proven to be true....

makes weinstein the sorry SOB..... not funny.
