I voted for Trump and still prefer him over Pence. I agree that he does have to stop with the tweets though. Tax cuts and reform is on its way.

This is late first quarter.

Yep, 3rd qtr will be 2019 if he makes it that far. If he gets off fucking Twitter, it would calm everybody down. He talks too much.

Obviously you Americans calculate things different from me. Base on Trump starting Presidential work in Feb.

Feb/Mar/Apr - First Quarter
May/June/July - Second Quarter
August/Sept/Oct - Third Quarter
Nov/Dec/Jan - Fourth Quarter

That's how it works for me.

Nah. He's in for a 4 year term. Government isn't even working off a Trump budget yet.

Pence is an ultraconservative and clueless man -- he doesn't think ahead to consequences.

But he also wouldn't be the sheer embarrassment Trump is.

Ryan and McConnell would also be disasters.

We may just have to hunker down.

and hope for a better Congress.

jlf1961 -> RE: So it's 3rd Quarter of Trump Presidency, how many prefer Pence now? (10/17/2017 6:46:10 AM)

At this point, would it matter?

If Trump were impeached and removed from office, Pence essentially would be in the same position as Gerald Ford, and even if he did everything perfectly, his administration would be tainted.

If, on the other hand, Trump is assassinated (and considering the number of foreign leaders he has managed to piss off, its not out of the question, just highly improbable) Pence would be able to continue on for a martyred president.

In which case, he would have the whole country backing him regardless of what he did.

Nope. Fuck that.

The DJIA passed the 23,000 mark for an all time high. The Trump administration making America great again.

Yup, and industrial jobs in the US is still below the 2007 high with more jobs being sent over seas, despite what Trump promised, or Obama, or Bush or Clinton....

However, service industry jobs (i.e fast food, hotel cleaning staff etc) are at an all time high, despite what Trump promised, or Obama, or Bush, or Clinton, who all claimed that the industrial jobs of America will become the biggest employer if they are elected.

Which proves one very important thing to everyone that voted for the last four winning presidents, when it comes to the jobs that made America great, they cant do shit.

They could, but they can't afford to piss off the plutocracy that elected them to do as they're told so they don't.

Lets wait and see with this president. He has only been in office 9 months or so.

Musicmystery -> RE: So it's 3rd Quarter of Trump Presidency, how many prefer Pence now? (10/17/2017 11:16:44 AM)

Yeah....the term's already 1/5 over, but let's wait while he figures out how to be president.

FFS.

You want to excuse him for, what, 40 percent of his term? 60? 80? 95?

At point might we consider that gosh, maybe he just sucks.

Your thread title states that it is "3rd Quarter of Trump Presidency ...". You invoked his Presidency, which we measure as a four year "lump" (sometimes an eight year "lump", divided into two "terms").

I think this is the difference in your understanding of English and my understanding of English.

To me, A whole Trump Presidency contains 16 quarters. So saying 3rd quarter of his Presidency is correct too.

I've never heard of "quarters" being used to describe number of years before. This is the first time I have ever heard it used in that manner in my entire life! Quarters are usually used to calculate number of months in my universe, if you use it in relation to time period.

Of course, you're right. My understanding of English comes from it being my first language and having dedicated a good portion of my life to studying its roots (Latin, German, Greek) and being fairly fluent in three languages that have the common Latin root.

I tried to help you understand, but all you want to do is remain entrenched in your way.

Congratulations, Greta. You won. Feel better?

Incase you didn't get my point, my point is, the way I interpreted 3rd Quarter is just as valid as the way you interpreted 3rd Quarter. You counted Years. And clearly, there is a universal understanding among Americans to say it that way.

But the universal understanding here, in the usage of "Quarters" usually refers to number of months.

Surely you are aware that, EVEN if you talk about 3 English Speaking Countries, UK/US/Australia.

There are still some little things that are interpreted differently.

A very simple example is, "Cookies" "Biscuits", or "Chips" "Fries". I mean the thingy that Americans advertised as "Biscuits" is actually a "Scone" to us in Singapore. We were always like Why the HEll do Americans call Scones "Biscuits"?

Your universe is a pretty lonesome affair - filled with a lot of nonsense too.

Three quarters of a presidencĂ˝ of four years to be divided in four quarters of one year each equals 3 years - everywhere else regardless of what language is used. A "whole" is not divided in 16 quarters but 16 sixteenths.

Universal basic arithmetics primary school level.

And why do Americans spell "colour" as "color" ya know! Or "Centre" as "Center".

It's not nonsense. Every English is Different. We don't even spell the same way as them. And if we did spell words the American way in English Class. It would be marked as a wrong answer and you will lose marks for bad spelling.

My point is, IF Americans want to choose to change the spelling of English words and make it their own. They cannot come and claim that my country is wrong.

This is how we refer to Quarters. It's used to describe months. Not years. As for the American Presidency. At the end of the last 3 months of his 4 years term, if someone describe it as either the 4th quarter (referring to years), or the 16th quarter(referring to months). It means the EXACT the same thing, and neither answers are wrong.

I don't think I've ever seen as good a thread about what the word 'quarter' means.

heavyblinker -> RE: So it's 3rd Quarter of Trump Presidency, how many prefer Pence now? (10/18/2017 4:40:18 AM)

Guys, I'm pretty sure that Greta knows what her own country's vocabulary means.

She is obviously using the word 'quarter' as shorthand for 'a quarter of a year', not 'a quarter of the presidential term'... so she is technically correct to say we are in the third quarter of his term in that we are in the third quarter of its first year, and using this definition of the word 'quarter' (as in quarters of a year, not 1/4 of a certain timeframe) there will be 13 more quarters to come (but hopefully not).

You might not have heard that term used in reference to presidential terms before, but since you can't own the English language, you sort of have to roll with it.

Mathematics are known as the universal language because the math concepts do not change regardless of how they are expressed from language to language. A quarter as a fraction is the same in any language.

Greta lacks education, by her own admission. She also has issues with cognitive reasoning, as she proves on the boards daily. Nowhere is that more evident than in this conversation except for maybe when she's discussing Anatomy.

Greta, I can't do so right now that this evening when I get home, if someone has not already done so, I will try to help you understand this concept of fractions.
