That reminds me of being in a corner shop in a village sea-port in Scotland in the Highlands when I was up there hiking, asking the shopkeeper for a box of Swan matches.* A tiny old lady - she couldn't have been even 5' - waved her walking stick at me and called me a 'something something [indecipherable] sassenach'. [*The shopkeeper apologised for the old lady and explained that they didn't stock Swan matches, on account of swans being bad luck in that port. Apparently a swan had landed on a ship half a century before and it had sunk, along with most of the village's menfolk, who made up its crew.] The one and only time I've ever been called a 'sassenach'.
