heavyblinker -> Could anyone technically become a slave? (12/25/2017 8:19:20 AM)

So I was wondering about this just as a matter of curiosity.

Given enough time, training, discipline, humiliation, degradation, blackmail, whatever... do you think it's possibly for absolutely anyone to become a slave?

Or do you think that some people would never break or accept such a state?

Do you mean with their consent?

The problem is also in what you mean by slave, and to whom.

I don’t do blackmail, degradation, punishment, etc. In a situation where these things were being done to me against my will, I hope the result would be death, mine or the abuser’s. But you don’t need to speculate, look at concentration camps, at Pol Pot’s regime, at Rwanda.

With the person I chose as highly compatible, none of those things were necessary. I follow his lead because he’s earned my trust.

You mean like Theon/reek out of Game of Thrones...?
He was of weak character, he had no choice and.... you know.... tv shows come with a script.

There certainly is a condition now recognised as Stockholm Syndrome for those so exposed. Given enough time, I think anyone would break under such treatment. The variable is, to what degree...?

Ultimately, it's an individual thing. Fictional Theon was a wretched character to begin with, IMO. I wasn't surprised at all when he (reek) foiled his wouldbe rescuers.
Being a slave isn't in my genetic wiring; I'dve been outa there! But I don't think anyone would get back to "normal" from before they went in.

Focus.

History already tells you the answer to this question. Some people have a will that cannot be broken no matter what. WWII concentration camps, Vietnam war POWs are proof of that along with many other examples throughout all of history. There are people who will die before giving in to slavery. Free Will has been the driving force of freedom.

In BDSM this is a mute point. The heart of M/s D/s relationship is the person choosing to willingly give up control to that special person. Both parties willingly consenting to the relationship.

Another name for it is "marriage."

Nice Question ....

Frankly, with honest communication, trust and respect develop. And then the submissive one begins to submit to the Dominant one ...

In time, it can and does become a consensual Owner/slave relationship.

That said, it requires mature communication and honest interaction .... so maybe that says not everyone can do so ... [:)]

To answer your question, yes, many people achieve a slave state of mind and lifestyle.

You don't have to "break" to become a slave. In breaking do you mean limits or your internal will?

If you feel complete submission (slavery) seems like breaking to you, perhaps you do not have the mindset for it.

To some, slavery feels like release, clarity in purpose or a freedom, not breaking or losing something. It feels like they are gaining something.

=The End All of Limits =-
In line with reality, if I tell my slave to "fly" she will not be able to whether there are negotiated limits or not. However, a good slave once said, "with a running start, I can give you 2 seconds of flight".

There are no limits in TPE. Anything otherwise is semantic word games. As Master I am in control and I own my slave in the same way I own any property. My car does not negotiate limits with me when I ask it to turn left or stop, neither should my slave. My car has real life limitations like my slave. If I abuse it or push it past its' limits, it will break. However, I am smart and responsible enough not to abuse my property, living or otherwise. My car can't fly for more than a few seconds either by the way.

If "limits" are a concern to the point you feel you must mention or negotiate for them you are either not suited for TPE or poorly paired with someone you don't trust. Either way, "limits" should be a clue to both parties that something is amiss.

Stupid fucking question

It is possible, not for just anyone as your question suggests.

A dominant I knew once snorted and said that anyone could become a slave, that he could. I raised my eyebrows at him.

"You ... have 'slave heart'?"

He looked a little flustered. "Well, no. But I was in the military. I took orders."

"So, you actually believe that - today - you could submit to someone's will and pledge yourself to them, and that you'd enjoy it?"

He looked mildly embarrassed. "Um. No."

Channeling Inigo Montoya, "I don't think that 'slave' means what you think it means."
