I am a masochist. But the pain is only part of what I seek. The biggest craving is for the degradation that comes from being in a situation where someone uses you to satisfy their their urges to inflict pain/damage.

Does any any masochist feel this way? Does any sadist fell that inflicting pain/damage is a way of degrading/dehumanizing their victim?

Likewise I am a masochist - a willing victim with boundaries.

I generally prefer humiliation to pain, though I not averse to a few whacks.

Ultimately, I believe it boils down to a sense of being genuinely subjugated and degraded. That sense comes from knowing the Domme is in control and having a ball at the expense of your dignity. Knowing they are satisfying their sadistic urges at your expense.

The masochist's buzz is dependent upon the Domme's buzz. You cannot have the former without the latter.

You totally can, but I get your point. As with any fetish, there is a feedback loop of both parties are getting pleasure from the activity.
As a sadist, I much prefer causing pain to someone that enjoys it, although a total masochist can be exhausting. But I think focusing on any particular kink, rather than the actual dominance and submission can get in the way. If someon that truly enjoys receiving pain gets together with someone that truly enjoys giving it, there can be an amazing feedback loop.
For me, causing pain to someone that doesn't enjoy it would be like kicking a puppy, though I'm sure not all sadists feel that way. An unfulfilled masochist can often provoke others in order to receive pain
This could be the abused spouse refusing to leave the alcoholic, or simply rubbing a cat's belly, knowing they'll claw the piss out of you. Some people need pain. Consensual and intentional s&m is a much better way.

Degradation is something I don't understand in a slave, as long as the act is private, strictly between the D and s. Now, I could understand the s being humiliated if the D fucks them at Grandma's Thanksgiving table while asking somebody to pass the gravy, but that has less to do with the act itself than being "outed" on front of people. But I'm Dominant, so if someone does something I find humiliating, it's not on a sexual way, so mu sadistic thoughts have to be more creative than usual.
