My Master would like to have me branded - and I am slowly warming to the idea... (pun not intended)

Has anybody here ever done this before? Can you tell me how it is done? What safety precautions do I need to worry about? (apart from the obvious sterilisation issue) Do professional places do these kinds of "personalised" brandings? Any other advice? (Besides "dont do it", please :))

yaqeta, while this is a great place to get OPINIONS, it's or hit or miss place to get facts. Many people confuse the two. I would do some research on it. Talk to medical staff.
There are tattoo shops, that do scarifications, again you'd have to do your research. Maybe look into bloodlining while your there? That way you have a few options to consider *s*.

I don't mean any offense to my fellow boarders, some give great advice. Some things really should be dealt with first hand and by professionals IMHO.

Although I personally have never done this I recently attended a demonstration on "artistic brandings" or "temp" brandings". The demonstrator used a disposable electrical cautery pen to trace the design he had transferred to the slave using the same paper tattoo artists use to transfer designs. This method did not penetrate more than a few layers of skin and lasts approximately 2-4 months. It can be made permanent by re-doing the branding additional times until the dermal layer has developed a scar.

Having given that information about the artistic brandings I will also say the demonstrator related that hot iron brandings, which is what was commonly used to mark livestock or human chattel is extremely difficult to control in terms of depth of penetration which is likely to lead to a much more severe burn than intended. The same cautionary statements apply to use of liquid nitrogen for "freeze" branding.

Finally this is not something to be done without hands on, one to one training by an experienced practioner. It takes lots of practice under the guidance of someone who is adept at using the cautery pens. Their temperature is around 2200 degrees F. Also, like any other permanent marking, one should think long and hard before having it done.

go to www.byblair.com - one believes he is in Canada. There is a place in Toronto that does beautiful branding - one can't remember the name of it but am sure you can google it.

There are many excellent resources for this on the internet - you can read about the different methods and the positive/negative of all of them.

There have been a few threads on branding in the past. I'm surprised LA hasn't posted them, but I'd strongly reccomend using the search engine and reading through some of the older threads on the subject.

My owner branded me around a year and a half ago. I have a site up that chronicled the healing and the actual experience, so rather than prattle on I'll just refer you to that site:

Thank you, Wildfleurs! I was really hoping to hear about someone's actual experience, and yours complete with a slideshow and web links was even better! I've had a quick look, and bookmarked it for more careful reading later, and will probably show Master.

Thanks, ayasha, but I live in Australia *smiles*. I know of a local place that does branding but never heard how good they are or seen their work. And yes, I will google it and find out some info, for now I was after a personal take on it.

lol, yes I am aware of that, Silvermoon

Its probably obvious from this post that I don't really know anything about it yet, but don't panic and think that means I'm going to go ahead and do this when I'm totally clueless, lol. We've talked about it a little, and I'm just reaching the point where the idea isn't so scary anymore, so I'm ready to get more information - and talking to people who've done it seemed a good place to start.

I can't say for sure about Australia but the demonstrator who presented to our group is also a tattoo artist and body piercer so, if it was me, I would research any local body modification studios and see if anyone there has experience using the cautery pens. Just like with the high temp or strike irons the design you choose to use needs to have some open areas, not too intricate in nature or lots of tightly spaced lines or curves since the burn will "bloom" or swell both during the healing process and the end result will be wider than the original tracing.
