Yea we heard that too... now does that really may sense to you? Bradford and Foles have similar statistics with Foles a little bit better. Foles salary for next year is around 1.5 million where Bradford's is 13 million. Now if a team was interested in trading a draft position for a quarterback why not trade the better prospect instead of going through all this? Otherwise Foles could have been traded for the draft pick with more upside than Bradford.

Anyway ...I know a few quarterbacks step right into NFL systems and work quite well but this is the exception rather than the rule... To me , what do i know, but it seems foolish to draft Mariota and expect him to step in and run a pro offense.... I can't believe this is his plan.

Butch

Butch, I am right there with you. I didn't understand why you trade for Bradford and lose Foles and give up a few draft picks in the process... frankly, no one understands it. It would seem to me that packaging Foles with draft picks to move up in the draft would have been the better option. That said, none of the sports writers or analysts in Philly here believe that Chip Kelly is done with his moves. If he is, Kelly has big brass balls and he had better be right or he is out of town and the Eagles are sitting there looking mighty stupid.

If we get Mariota, and we have to give up a lot to get him, a few first round picks over the next few years and maybe a player or two, then he is going to have to step right into this offense and produce, and we both know that is a longshot but not unheard of in this league.

Time will tell.

If this is true, it's a sad day and a day for celebration of a great career, all at the same time.

These days, it is rare for a player to spend their entire career with just one team and this part is interesting:

quote:

Reports in March said the Steelers asked him to retire, so they wouldn't have to cut him. Polamalu told Wexell he didn't consider playing elsewhere. He told Wexell he had the realization he should retire in church this week. Clearly, from his comments, his faith had a lot to do with the decision at age 33, after 12 NFL seasons.

Would Seahawks let Russell Wilson walk? GM hints that it's possible

Salary caps make the negotiations harder, when you have so many good seasoned players. A lot of what they do is defense, and with the caliber of their coaching they might do okay without Wilson... But I am betting that they work something out.

Tom Brady’s Legacy as One of the Best Takes a Hit

To find out if the New England Patriots knowingly used deflated footballs during the A.F.C. championship game in January, the N.F.L. hired lawyers and physics geniuses and investigators who dug so deeply that it seemed they were investigating a federal crime.

The result was released on Wednesday: a 243-page investigative report, which included a 68-page scientific report and appendices. But, truthfully, all of it could have been boiled down to a single sentence: Tom Brady — one of the most accomplished N.F.L. quarterbacks ever — is more probably than not a cheater.

Just as it is more probable than not that the Patriots just can’t seem to follow the league’s rules.

Remember 2007? That was when the Patriots and Coach Bill Belichick were punished after a staff member was caught videotaping the Jets’ defensive signals. Brady would have benefited a whole lot by knowing exactly what the Jets’ defense was up to, but Belichick took the blame for that one.

But this time, the report said Belichick wasn’t aware of any wrongdoing. (He was probably too busy coming up with his latest kooky eligible-receiver-turned-ineligible-receiver formation.)...

LOL-- love the article from the Times.

I live in Seattle, home of those who currently HATE the Pats.

What I laughed at yesterday was how this was portrayed on the local media, which I give as much credence to as the local NY media in terms of the Pats.

What exactly was the conclusion in the report? That Tom Brady more likely than not was "generally aware" that this went on.

You can't get any more wishy-washy, as far as I'm concerned.

As far as I see it, they wanted to implicate him, but couldn't, really.

His "legacy" was written many years ago in the NY media. What I am most surprised at is that the NY times still has a sports section.

Many will think me overboard..and I may be... But to keep the integrity of the game and assure games are won on the field by talent, luck, hard work, and sacrifice, not by cheating, I believe the NFL should follow the example of Baseball.

I think those that are proven to be involved in anyway with cheating should be permanently banned from Football. The Super Bowl should be forfeited.. all performance records of implicated players expunged from the record books.

Fines and suspensions will not restore trust...especially since this is the second offense. Baseball did the right thing and now it is time for the NFL to step up and assure trust in the game.

There were some really damning texts sent out by Tom Brady

Ive been a huge Seahawks fan since their first game in '76 so I might be a bit partial

(Just a bit)

But its the second major offense, just as you write...

It is a shame... even if, and you know as well as I the NFL will not do what is right... the game is forfeit, this particular Super Bowl will be forever tarnished and will bring no pride to the Seahawks even if they are awarded the victory.

Months ago, I called them "Tom Shady and Bill Belicheat". They're only damning Shady, this time but Bill doesn't have clean hands, either.

How would forfeiting the Super Bowl be "what's right"?

The Seahawks lost that game. Heartbreaking, for sure, but they LOST it. Not because of any alleged deflated footballs, or anything of the sort.

Or, the NFL could actually change the procedures about how footballs are inflated and handled before the game.

Does anyone actually believe that this is a "one off" in the NFL?

What would restore "trust", for me, is the NFL actually looking at this issue and addressing it.

You just should not be IN a super bowl by cheating..simple.. They cheated to get there and it is not the first time. If there is no real penalty for cheating it will continue.. Suspension for a couple of games means nothing.

So, the Seahawks should get the victory? Ok then. That will CERTAINLY bring trust to the game.

What's interesting to me is the verbiage that was used in this report. It's more likely than not that Brady had general knowledge of this going on. Frankly, I'm still stuck on that. Ted Wells is an attorney, and I'm sure chose these words very carefully. "More likely than not"-- ok, 51% or more. What sticks with me is the "general knowledge" part. What in the heck is "general knowledge"? To me, it says that because of his position and knowledge he should have known that something was amiss. You know, like when a layperson would say "trust your gut". At the end of it though, I think that if this was brought in front of a jury, this would be far from an open and close case.

As I said before, it strikes me as incredibly wishy-washy. I frankly don't see this as a cut-and-dry finding of cheating, at least on the part of Tom Brady.

Only if there is irrefutable evidence should the tough measures be imposed...but of course just me opinion... By the way there is no love of the Seahawks from me... I am a poor St. Louis fan soon to loose our team. I just don't think cheaters should win...how about you?

I want to believe in the integrity of the game... I want to believe teams earn their rewards... The Pats have cheated more that once... they need to be cut from the record books... they are not worthy of a championship.

If it was a court of law it would be different, but the NFL commissioner does whatever he wants

So, damning texts may be enough to do something pretty major, all kinds of things may be on the table

Or not

I agree that cheating should be strongly discouraged. I dont know if that is going to happen or not

And, if you believe that it's only the Pats that have engaged in any questionable conduct, I have a bridge to sell you...Brooklyn or San Francisco, your choice.
