i might be wrong, but when i read the book i got the impression that the book Goreans version of beauty was a little different than ours. They are more holistic, looking at the whole girl, and a truly submissive personality made a girl beautiful. She could be plain Jane, but once in slave slinks and truly submissive, truly femenine she would become a creature of wonderous beauty. In our world we look to the photo models, dangerously skinny girls whit wery special, even strance faces, tall as menn and bony, they are the beauty ideal of our world, who would say Naomi Cambell, perhaps the worlds most famous fahsion model, but whit an atitude like a wild boar would be found beautiful on Gor. When i read the books i got the feeling a Gorean man would find plain Jane properly trained, willing and submissive, more beautiful that a model that was rude and figid.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder yes, and some men might prefer one type of girl or another, but if one read the descriptions of many of the Earth slave girls, when they first come to Gor they are resonably slender, normaløy pretty girls, girls the slavers have seen the potential for true beauty in, and as they acept their slavery and become more and more submissive, they also become more and more beautiful.

My sword skills really suck which means I probably wouldn’t last to long on Gor, so I’ll have to say no. Still, it sounds like it would be a great place to vacation. I think the disclaimers on the travel packages would be interesting, though:
"Interplanetary Getaways is in no way responsible if you should be eaten by a sleen, trampled by a tharlarion, disembowled by a warrior, or captured by a slaver."

LOL I once sat and spoke with some freinds discussing the idea of time travel to middle ages and what all the "warriors, and such" would end up being and we came to the basic conclussion that we'd all end up as scribes or doctors or some other such usefull but ignored aspect of society. If we were not all burned as socerers for knowledge of chemistry and sanitation and even 1st aid level medicine.

Evening Archer,

I would see you as more of an alchemist.  I probably would wind up stoned or burned as well, for my radical ideas.

Have a great night,
Thadius

The sad truth is that, statistically, we would all be peasants; both on Gor, and in Medieval times.  That's the biggest reason I like most societies today, that we have the choice to choose what becomes of our lives, regardless of caste or birth.

Greetings Masters,
Greetings Mistresses,
Greetings fellow slaves,

I know what would have happened to me more than likely. When I was 18 years old I suffered from Spinal Meningitis  and had to go to the hospital and stay in for over  20 days in isolation away from everyone because I was contagious. If it would not have been for the medication I would have died. Three years before I had it they did not have a cure. So in the middle ages I would probably have died at the young age of 18 if not sooner if some other disease had not taken me out first. A lot of us would probably suffer from diseases that are not even majorly serious now that was considered a death sentence back in the midevil days. So if we had survived the guilotine or being burned at the stake. A germ might have done us in. Sad but true.

Likely true if we were born to the time however the idea here is that we get moved to the time/ place as we are now.
While way out of shape by comparison, and far under instructed in what real fights to the death are like, we have even if we were C students a far greater knowledge of things not understood very well a the time or place. So if we didn't get killed outright we might prove usefull based on that knowledge. Of course that knowledge would also make us targets for Prosecution, LOL.

Greetings, Masters
Greetings, Mistresses
Greetings, brother and sister slaves...

As for living on Gor, my question would be, Can I get back to Earth? So I suppose, my answer would be yes.  As long as I could keep the knowledge I presently have.  *smiles*

Many times, in reading the books, I fantasize about what it would be like to live there, and wish to live there.  I wonder what kind of slave I would be, how I would be used, and how often I would be told, or given, or loaned, etc. to another.  And I will admit this, for I have nothing to be ashamed of--to be a red silk slave, a dancer, one that brings joy to my Master's eyes and lust to his body (as well as others)...is not entirely something I scrunch up my nose at.  Yes, I know it means I could be disposed of to another at my Master's pleasure.  And yet, at the same time, it does not bother me.

Well wishes,

little oyx

Oh, wow...I must've been in some extremely happy place (or extremely something place) when thinking about living on Gor and typing at the same time, because it is only now that I've realized that I misspelled my own name.  Sad, I know.  And, naturally, I cannot edit the message for some reason.  Oh well--at least I know that I can laugh at myself.

I think this question has the same problem (in nature) as the religious dilemma of a perfect deity holding it's imperfect creations accountable for transgressions with the threat of a concept we have no capacity of understanding... eternity of damnation (rather than the more real and applicable understanding of why things are wrong, their impact on others and ourself and how they can damage what is actual to us and our environments).

What I mean by that is this:  The world of Gor is so fantastical in so many of it's elements, I believe we disassociate from what the actuality of that world would really be;  not to mention the impact they would have, both mental and physical on a people raised for generations in such completely different conditions.

We can conceptualize what a culture which has absolutely no issue with slavery as a viable and necessary part of society would be like.  We can allow our mind to take flights of fancy and fantasize about what it would be like to be transported to a world with a different gravitational force.  We can try to imagine life on a planet where, no matter where you went, most of the items we take for granted in our daily lives, and which have been a part of our own societies for so long that an alternative way of life without them is not even thought of, much less taught to people, were not only not available, but not ever developed, etc etc.

The fact of the matter is, I would doubt that very many of us would last all that long on that planet, free or slave.  The elements of nature alone would probably do us in before the elements of society.

I also think that if one did manage to survive for a length of reasonable time there, the psychological impact of a society so completely different to ours would manifest itself an a myriad of unpredictable ways, very few of them good.

Anyhow, my answer would be a resounding NO.

LOL..i really do not think most gor people would want to live on gor for real. a book is something that is left to the imagination and it can be put down at anytime. in real life the fantasy ends and reality takes over, yes reality, brutal reality...and a real slave has no control over anything and in a book that can be exciting but in real life...not so mucn.

No way! LOL!  I can accept that in theory (and in practice on Gor), a Free Woman can be captured and forced into slavery... where, presumably, she comes to terms with her "slave" nature and embraces it (well and good if you're a sex slave, probably not so hot if you're drudging to clean kitchens and outhouses). Safely here on earth, however, any Master wanting to enslave ME had better bring a freakin' ARMY! So, no, but thanks... I'll pass on the ticket to Gor.

FemmeOwner,

If you ever have a chance to meet a woman who uses the name Lily_A_Thorns (on ever server that ever had Gorean rooms) you'd meet a woman who'd seen a lot of Gor and taught so many others what Gor was. You comment on slaves forced into collar, and how they yield and become docile, etc. Ask Lily about docile surrender. It NEVER happened!

She's a wonderfully amazing woman, truly.

Thanks, Ashaia. I honestly don't have a lot of time for forums, and even less for chats, but I've been dropping in on the occasional chat room in the wee hours of the night for a little bit, in the interests of learning more and seeing how Goreans interact with each other (online at least). I'll keep an eye out for her, thanks :)
