Greetings,

Regarding working with the military, most professional armies are joined voluntarily. Its just like taking up another job. If you sign a contract to be a infantryman for 4 years, or sign a contract to be a secratary at the bank for 4 years, you are stuck with them in the same way. Its just that the working conditions of the military involve more command structure than working at a regular office. If you break either contract, there will be penalties, maybe these can be negotiated to a greater extent within a civilian job than with the military job.

Cheers
Piyush.

I have to wonder if you have actually joined the military in the US.  There is no "I don't feel like going into work today" or "You know what?  I quit" or at least there wasn't when I joined.  You want to exert your rights?  LOL... you don't have any - do what you're told or you'll get hit with an article 15 or, in the wrong place, a courts martial (a federal felony conviction, losing you your right to vote and many other rights).

The military isn't a joke and unlike so many other positions, you can't 'just leave'.  It's not 'just another contract'.  Particularly in a time of war... like today.

I was just thinking of what we were allowed to say to the press during Desert Shield and Storm.  Yes sir, No sir, or I cannot confirm nor deny that sir.  Freedom of speech is definitely one of those rights that is arbitrated for you while serving.  Makes you wonder if you drafted a nifty little contract and oath, if it would be defendable under a policy of "for home security reasons" (just kidding)

I wish you well,
Thadius

Greetings Thadius,
I have always loved that movie (Full Metal Jacket) and the saying the Drill Sargeant used " Your Heart may belong to Jesus, but you Ass belongs to the Corp"
That is so true. My dad is a retired Marine and I use that term as opposed to ex Marine, because, Once a Marine, always a Marine.

Well wishes,
Maahsatti

We tend to refer to ourselves, among ourselves, as former Marines.  Not all of us did twenty or thirty years and retired.

Actually I never use the word former either.  I will always be a Marine, the corp is in my blood (literally, I am 6th generation).  Although I started out in Uncle Sam's canoe club, when the reup came I switch branches... Was stationed with the Marines during my entire navy tour.  I remember the birthday and Xmas presents from my father, uncles, and grandfather... life preservers, inflatable dingies, water wings, a mop, etc.  I took the message to heart.

I can't remember how long it took me to break myself of the "this recruit ..." or "this Marine..."

I wish you well,
Thadius

Tal Mons,

I had to go back and read my own post to try and understand what you were addressing me about. I have two sons that are no longer teenagers, They are both in fact Men of our Nation, the younger of the two deploys for Iraq in June-ish. He’s a proud Blue Cord wearin’ Grunt. When at my house always rushes to answer my home phone with some damn Home of the Infantry crap.

Yes I understand a great deal about the youth of this nation, I was in the service a long time and seen many, many come and go, from all walks of life and I have stood for black sons of America when black men wouldn’t, because I did look at each MAN as an individual. I could give you one personal reference of a man and won’t give his name in the open, but he was accused of stealing from the PX. His actual section leader turned his back on him, the section leader his black. I talked to the troop in question and found him sincere and staked my own credibility on him with our Commander. To this very day that MAN did not let me down. Now I brought up that issue because in your post you made mention of your being black and of the stereo type about stealing. I think you can see I don’t carry that predjudice.

I wasn’t relating my post at all to the trouble or lack of trouble in our youth. I in fact think a lot like you. That youth that is America is doing me damn Proud in the Learning Institutions, see Caitlyn, The Military, see Iraq, the young warriors are doing an excellent job even if the old Generals can’t get their shit together.

My post was about YOU, ME and the adults that try and shield our children from all of life’s trials and pitfalls, as well as it’s wonders and rewards.

If you had a daughter would you teach her about life as a slave should she choose this path? I taught my sons about the path of a warrior, they are such, I also taught then that they could choose many directions, they are free and their path is their own. I did teach them as you would expect a Gorean man would that slavery is not an option for them. To fall prey to confinement or repression would limit their way as a man. I hope they were listening. If I had a daughter, would I teach her about slavery you must be ready to ask. Well, the fact of the matter is that after long thought and soul searching I would demand that her mother inform her completely as possible about those slave feeling that I would as a Gorean imagine all women feel. Would I have her mom teach her to be a slave, no. But if a I had a daughter I wouldn’t let my foolish pride stand between her and absolute happiness if it was a slave she was meant to be. If she is well informed, don’t you think she will make the best decision for herself?  I hope this clears things up a bit. I do think our kids are good, I really do. Yours and mine, Mons.

Live well friend,

Bull

greetings

that made me jump with horror when you ask her (bull) if jeff knew she was writing? can she not say what is wrong in some of the gorean master not all of a rose tinted place for many slaves . i am indeed glad she wrote both pieces of the story i feel the same i had many slaves 19 20 ask to be with me i have a son who is 26 i would not want him in this lifestlye it is hard if your a slave. he is not into this so i thank the lord but it is so hard for the new ones and so many will take advantage of them i do not care what anyone says 18 years young people do not know enough to be take as a slave. no mater what they may think at that time it will change. also the master who has poor bathing manners it is so horrible to kiss someone or perform on a smelly body i think it is a form of torture for the slave and to have to stay with a stinky master is (throwup time ) your writing is great i read it all and i think you have done so much for them. now i know not all gorean master are bad and smelly and i made a statement and i think it may had been taken the wrong way. i said that no one should shove someone ideal down our thorats when i said this i meant one person who had to just show he was not going to be the normal person who buys v day things. he to me was shoving down our thorats how mean he can be and no way would he be anything else but mean and that was that. so this is what i meant. i wanted to clear that up it had nothing to do with gorean master or slaves.
as for master taking an 18 years as a slave is just wrong they are so young i see many of the younger people around me they are so dippy and want to go out have friend their own age and dance not be held but a master to do nothing but please him after a time it changes. how i thought when i was 18 is such a differecne now that i never thought i was ever that dumb. all things need to grow plants flowers and peoples. if they do not have the time to grow they will be so unhappy does anyone ever remember thinking different then what you think now? it is the same with young people so much to grown and so much time is need to find out who you are.

as for master who are stiny and unclean wow it blow my mind to even think i would if i were a slave to have to serve him. i can imagine that this will be a subject that many will write on.

take care ( i see her master has taken her side and is well respected and a leader and true gorean master )

<USN-Ret: Served Desert Storm - VFA106 out of FL>

Another aside military in orientation: I can remember being a serial number. I mean... a social security number. I can remember learning to appreciate the rank not the officer, the duty not the activity, and the meritorious badges of honor not the personal character of the person. Yes, the military does take things and boil much of it down to black and white. I liked that part of it. I think it has always been easy for me to follow specific ideals, specific needs, and specific people.

Ash (again, returning this thread to the original topic)

I joined the military at 20, by the way, and at the time, I thought I was miss maturity. I thought I was ready for the real world. I think this actually does correllate with the topic at hand. It took me actually being there, and having to deal with the tough stuff for me to realize a lot of it was over my head. Decisions were made for me, and I got that, and followed orders. I didn't have to think for myself. A slave or submissive is thrown into much the same setting. There is some comfort that she doesn't have to make decisions for herself, but if she's committed life and service to a man she barely knows, or she makes some choices with an immature mind - I know I was immature when I joined the Navy. It is one reason I joined! - then she's going to be in situations she could not predict, plus as she does actually develop her own sense of maturity, her setting may change. It isn't that the man/Master changes, it is that the woman evolves and learns to think for herself. Then what? Fortunately for me and my Navy, my commitment was for four years. Many submissives do not have a specific length of time they agree to so they are stuck either trying to make it work, or with the emotional baggage that comes when you try to undo a relationship.

To Marines among us, oorah!
Anchors away,
Ash
