Figured since there have been a few fun type topics hitting the boards, why not one more.

Would you like to see the movies made?  Who would you want to cast in which roles? Who would you have direct them?  Should they be done as compilations (as opposed to single novel single movie)?

The biggest thing here is to have some fun with it.

I think Kubric would have been able to capture Gor in a way that nobody else could, it's a shame he is dead.  So perhaps Peter Jackson.  His visions of Tolkien were great, so perhaps he could do the series justice.

I think Val Kilmer would be an interesting Tarl...

I wish you well and look forward to any comments,
Thadius

Tal Thadius,

The books are a combination of cool ideas. First you have a star trekian society that is a whole planet of ideas away from Earth, some very similiar to ours and some very different. I love sci-fi, so I'd love to see this element. Then you have the great battle scenes. They're not really well written in my opinion, but in epic form, like Return of the King's battle of the 5 species, it might be very cool to see the 4 tribes of the Wagon Peoples meet together on the plains. There is great drama, like the storming of the Initiates' high chamber by Forkbeard. There is sly deception when Jason tempts others to bed him so his Master might have slave rights to those women Jason taunted. So many stories could be amazingly descriptive. I'd love to see Saphrar sinking into the yellow goo. I'd love to see the Golden Beetle drug the Priest Kings. You could do a segmented sort of movie, where 4 novels were used to make one movie, and end up with 6 movies like the final Star Wars segments. Or you could choose some of the favorites. Many people loved book 4 for instance. It would be enjoyable to see classic actors play key roles. And you cannot deny the beauty of a bevy of slaves appearing in the sensual outfits described. Even the ta-teera would be exotically sexy on a body like Jennifer Aniston or other very lovely, well known women. I could see Meryl Streep playing the Tatrix with a Silver Mask. Oh the ideas... I could go on for days.

Yes, make the movies, but make them well!
Ash

Tal Thadius,

Kubrick was the first that came to mind too. Quentin Tarantino do well directing if he kept away from some of his tendencies to go over the top.

(anat here) I would love to see a 'who's who' of the great directors all take a chapter, would love to see thier various takes on the premise......Kubrick (yeah, too bad it's too late), Scorcese (sp), David Lynch (his surealism might lend itself well to 'Priest Kings'), Tarentino, Clint Eastwood (maybe for 'Savages' and 'Blood Brothers'), Speilberg, Tim Burton and Coppella.
Some ya might want to stay away from however.....can you imagine say, John Waters, take on Gor????

Like whit so many fantasy series and books i enyoy i say yes, i would like it being made into a movie, if the movie is done well, unfortunatly most fantasy movies are not made well and it is hard to make a movie from a books and do so well for it is a completly different medium, but yes sure, i would love a good Gor movie.

I don't think Quentic can be held back when it comes to going over the top.  Although it would be interesting to see his concepts of Gor on film.

I was just thinking though, why not play into the fun abit of the Gor Disney craze... Just one word PIXAR.

I wish you well,
Thadius

Indeed, Eastwood would be an excellent choice.  The way he handled "Unforgiven" was masterful.  Perhaps a cameo as well....

Afternoon and greetings,

He would just HAVE to have a cameo, Tarl's Father?  George Lucas for special effects, and as for Tarl....Matthew McConnaughy?     I can see him  in the humorous scene in Beasts when they are fishing.   Sarah Jessica Parker - Elizabeth?   But Kamchak?  Who could portray Kamchak?   Bruce Willis?

Another,

Remember the series Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman? I think Jane Seymour would make an excellent anything of Gor, but to answer your question about who could play Kamchak, I don't remember the actor's name who did odd jobs around the show (traveled with a wolf, lived like an indian to some extent but was at least 1/2 white)... he seemed to have the charisma, the good looks, the masculine I can fix anything do anything attitude, and oh he was hot. I was maybe 14-19 when the show was in its prime, so yes, he was a heart throb.

Tal and greetings all....

Peter Jackson for producing and directing and Wetta Workshop for the special effects. If you want it done right, go to the best.

Be well all....

Tal Malkinius,

What movie or film has Wetta Workshop done?  The name has escaped my mind.  Must be from the USA.  In aussie land we have the Rising Sun, that did the effects for Superman Returns, a small company but very big in name sake in the states.

Be well.

Frank Ar.

PS...Rising Sun did also some effects for the LOTR trilogy.

Tal and greetings

With all the new movie technolgy a Gor movie would have all the effects as in the book, Tarns, Kurr, sleens, etc.  I don't know who would play Tarl Cabot, but he would have to have red hair.

I wish you well

They were the main special effects people on The Lord of the Rings and have done other fantasy movies since then. They can handle both the props and the CGI that would be required for the movies.

Be well...

Greeting fyre,

I think he (Matthew McConnaughy) would make a good Tarl, he could put the right amount of humor into the role, plus, he is just so darn cute.  I am thinking of "Failure to Launch", and  the natural order comment at the end of the film.  Where  everything fits right, when nature is allowed to evolve as it should.   And thought how appropriate, though the makers of the film I'm sure had no idea the significance of that statement.
