You can get insurance to cover the loss of anything if you are willing to pay the rates. As a slave is a person, standard life/health insurance rules apply. Now, if you are talking about covering the loss of service while the slave is sick or until a replacement is found, a variant on several types of existing coverage including keyman insurance might cover it but besides Lloyds of London, I am not sure who would underwrite that. There are other companies that write unique policies, but I don't know who they are. I am not an insurance agent after all. Find one and ask them.

be well.....

Greetings all,
if i may join in with a little humor on this subject.

my son, and his live-in girlfriend, had a fire in their aptment complex, when they heard the shouts and saw the smoke and flames coming into their apt from the apt next to theirs, they had only seconds to get out..

they left valuables, money, pictures, clothes, and running half naked to get out, but they both did stopped to grab their computers cpu's on the way out.

College students have different prioritys.

There are lots of hypotheticals like this.  I recall the Star Trek movies, where the "needs of many/needs of the few or the one" line came into play.  Another I've used is if your mother, daughter, and wife were all dangling on the edge of a cliff, who do you save?

There is no 'right' answer, there's only the answer that we live by each and every day.  We do the best we can, with what we have, when and where we have it.  All lives have value, irrespective of their status as free or slave, and we always value the lives of those close to us over the lives of people we barely know or dislike.

i know what i would do Master, i would save my loved ones, even pets, before total strangers, i would rather let 1000 stangers die than see my loved ones come to any harm, selfish, perhaps, but then i am selfish.

Heh, I asked Loraith this one.  I didn't get the answer I thought I might.  He said, "All three."

I had a "But..wait..no..you can't...oh, it didn't say you could only save one" moment.

Threw me for a loop.  Technicalities, eh?  Bite ya in the ass every time!

Greetings everyone,

i hope that i am not out of line by posting my opinion on this subject. i looked back it was addressed to the Masters but i also saw that others than the Masters offered up opinions also.

i have read all the different answers from people in different stations of life. In my own opinion though, i think that panic would ensue any person who has a fire in their home and they would be grabbing and clawing for anything they value that they could save, including loved ones, pets and/or guests, be they free or otherwise.

Respectfully,
angyl

That is very true. my question however was not realy spesific to a fire, it was just a question of in a situation where one had to choose to save the life of a Free or of a slave, who would be saved.
