Quiver, I'd be willing to  get the liscence for dog groomer, or an animal trainer. I understand that you can't simply just be like hey I did some classes, now let me groom your animal lol. I was thinking along the lines of making the animals in your care nice to see any new possible humans, cause I know it's a paw up to look good when meeting potential humans. The obediance training would be a good tool to help them off into the right paw. Both examples would be helping an animal do better in life. and in general!

sub I will look at those:) I'm just or I wasn't aware of all the options availible working with animals, outside of vetinary care. Which I don't have the heart or guts to do lol.

hisannabell, I'm not staunchly against college I just don't see the point because I don't see what a college is going to teach someone who's not there for a degree. Why would going to college help if you're not there to get a degree, what classes would you take and what's the point.

For example, if you're not going to be a history major what's the point besides sheer personal interest of taking advanced history.

well, i'm a religion major because i love religion. i plan to get a job teaching it eventually, but i'm doing it first and foremost because it's what i love to do. even if i woke up tomorrow and someone told me i could never get a job as a religion teacher, i'd suck it up, keep taking advanced religion courses, continue getting my other degree in english, teaching high school english, and hopefully go to graduate school for religion anyway. if you love animals and have the opportunity to study animal science, why not? it seems like you are trying to find activities that move you...if that moves you and you can do it, then why not do it? college isn't just for getting a degree to get a job. a lot of people i know who look at it that way end up miserable and never want to go to class.

nonetheless, the thing i was trying to point out was that having classes in the area of animal science and wildlife ecology, if not choosing to pursue a degree in it, could help you get the kind of job you stated wanting in your original post. :) and that wasn't the crux, really, of what i was trying to get across in my post - my point was you'll have a lot more luck going to a career counselor, perhaps someone in your adult ed program or someone at a local university or community college.

I called pet co to find out how someone becomes a pet groomer, and she said you can go to expensive schools, or you could come in to petco get a job on the lowest rung as a bather and work up and eventually they will perhaps sponsor you to go to a professional school I am trying to fill out an application cause a job would be nice, but the site keeps saying can't be displayed lol.

I would imagain however that a doggie washer would involve lots of on feet time which would just kill my feet and back, but I assume I'll get used to it!  And what about lifting, due to a bad back I can not lift anything even light stuff, I assume they'd find it unacceptable to be like like sorry can't bend over will you pick up the dog for me lol.

It sounds like there are a number of issues that will impact upon the type of work you can do.  I am pretty sure a pet groomer would have to lift the pets onto the workbench unless they work with someone else who does the lifting.  Sustained standing and bending from the waist (leaning over the animal) may also be an issue if you have a back problem.  It really would be a good idea I think for you to see if there are any career guidance counsellors or employment agencies near you that assist people with disabilities/injuries and discuss everything more fully.  Could you trial a day or two in the pest shop to see how physically demanding it is?

They have training and I'm mentioning in my application the lifting issue.  I could even like only lift the 5-10 pound ones, not the big ones.

I'm not sure I'd even get the job not having finished highschool, while I am in the process, in the process isn't good enough for most companies. I'm looking up the carrer guidance consolor thing online, I wonder if the ARC will letcha speak to the career people with out being inrolled.

Well you could just find and go to school Now- or you can work at petco for who knows how long until they decide you have worked yourself up the ladder.
Could be years - you have no idea- sure they will sponser but I dont see them being in any kind of a hurry to let go of their money until you've given them what they feel is enough time.
Go Now or
Wait-wait

Hi.
This is actually in response a comment you have made throughout this topic, and not the original question, but i thought i would mention it anyway. i noticed that you seem to be equating the inability to live on your own with your job problems and school problems, saying things like: "I can't even live on my own, if i wanted to."

i have never ever once in my whole life lived on my own. i don't think i would function properly, as i am inured to being part of a unit, first with my family, then later with housemates. Living with other people is not a sign of weakness, its a sign that you have enough strength to work within a unit. If you really want to move from where you are, maybe you could look around for someone you think you could stand to see every day, and then offer to share. It is more affordable anyway.

My show horse gets monthly Reiki massages. She specializes in dogs and horses and is so successful she now employs others as well.

He also gets a chiropractic treatment every three months. She also works on dogs.

They are working with well animals, helping them get better.  You could call a vet and ask what other kind of treatments their well animals receive. I also know someone who outfitted a van and now runs a mobile dog beauty parlor. Dog obedience schools abound also.

Start by volunteering to socialize animals at the shelter. Pick a no kill shelter. You will get experience with animals and you will get the names of reputable people in fields you are interested in. Call these people up and tell them you are interested in doing the job they do but you don't know what kind of training is required. They'll be thrilled to talk to you.

You might also want to work with children and animals. If there's an therapeutic equine facility nearby, go and volunteer. You will learn skills and may get offered a job.

Celest I  called a ton of places this week, there's not very many no kill shelters, the ones around here need you to foster, or drive the animals to vets an stuff  neither of which I am up for, because  of that I'm going to the orentation for the Animal control place here.  I know it'll be sad, and many would find the fact their no kill unacceptable, but I know the need there. they need people to walk the animals socialize them, eventually if you wanted to you can work public education, and you can be in charge of showing people the animals and facilitating adoptions!

And this time I won't just give up so easily when they try to brush me off, if they try to I won't be rude, but I will present the fact that a few years ago I tried to volunteer, and for no reason I was droped and they wouldn't do anything to return my calls, or to finish the training we started.

I was teaching at a place that teaches guide dogs, and their grooming room had elevator lifts for the grooming staff.

I imagine as OSHA gets involved in the industry these will become normal, if they are not already.
