Greetings, everyone.

Since the question is addressed to the non-goreans, I'll toss in my reply. I had thought to write out a big long disseration as to why I am not Gorean, but then I realized - it's a simple question. So here's a simple answer.

I as a woman prefer to define myself, rather than letting that honor go to someone else. I prefer to make the choices and decisions in my life. I think I'm pretty good at it, and I don't think I need someone else to tell me what's good for me or not. I am simply not a submissive person at all.

There you have it! Apologies for my answer really not having much earth shattering depth to it. But There's my two cents.

Since gender roles are societal constructs that determine expectations for behavior, [...], I don't quite see how it's possible to separate gender dynamics from relationship dynamics.

What I mean is that there is a difference between interpersonal dynamics that center on gender as the determining factor of the dynamic and ones that center on the relationship between the parties as the determining factor of the dynamic. Quite simply, the dynamic portrayed in the books is an artifact of world reduction and artificial selection by the PKs.

Somewhere, I have a CDR with books 1-25 in text format. If you haven't got access to them and would like an e-copy, I'll dig it up and email it to you. Ar is one of the more conservative city-states, but it is often cited as a model for Gor at large.

I have the books. I would suggest not mentioning e-copies on these boards, as Simon is wont to report such things to various authorities. As for Ar, I quite agree that they are rather conservative, and while some hold it up as the pinnacle of what Gor should be, I am not one of those. Perhaps there's a tiny bit of Viking left in my bloodline, I dunno.

How would that POV conflict with Gorean philosophy?

I didn't say it did, I just said some will probably take exception to it.

Health,
al-Aswad.

Perhaps one day she will also fight for what they stand for...

Otherwise, leaving the fighting to the Free may be just as well, really.

Greetings Master Aswad,

A girl did not know that 'submissive females not of Gor' were any 'freer' than an 'uncollared slave' is.

She thought that in accordance with those that speak of 'earth legalities', we are one in the same since we are' free' to make our own decisions.

Thank you for the correction on this and she will try not to take the books so literally when it comes to 'slave squabbles'.

Undoing what she has been taught is not an easy thing to accomplish and then when she is chained again she will have to go back by these same premises but for now.........

Gratefully, she pleases the One whom she will beg.

well wishes

Hmmm,

Greetings sakinah,

Im not sure if this is me..or if not..if you are aware of it dear. But you are beginning to get and condasending tone about your mannor sakinah.
you seem frustraited and I think thats where it may be coming from.
Try and calm down a bit, specially when you read opposing views, it is hard for me as well to learn new idea's and to learn differant things about Gor I thought I had pegged, but we are all learning and thats the beauty of this place and these people. we are given differant views and knowledge to mull over and grow.

serve and be well,
Mistress Maahsatti

Greetings Mistress,

she is frustrated, Mistress, very much so in her freedom  for all seem to intepret differently and she was taught literally by the books.

she is not trying to be condescending its just hard to know what's allowed or not anymore.she find herself on the line of free and slave and this gives her much grief.

thank you  Mistress for bringing it to her attention.
she will get off the boards for the rest of the night and maybe things will seem clearer in the morning.

well wishes

Hey Babs,

You beat me to it; probably because I was off looking for a gift-wrapped silver mask.
Some seem to emulate both good and bad examples in the books equally literally.
There is something to be said for a gentler approach than I had in mind.

Health,
al-Aswad.

Hello Aswad,

I don't do the "gentle" approach much myself.

Regards,

Liz

Hi Liz,

It would appear our respective perceptions of reality are fairly congruent on this point.

Health,
al-Aswad.
