I know there have been many posts about branding in the past and thought I might share my experience from this week.

Thursday my play partner had me get the branding pen prior to play. It was a medical grade cauterizing pen. He drew something on my butt right above my tat with an ink pen before we started. An hour and half later I was one giant nerve, trembling and jumpy.

He lay me on my stomach. When the heat element touched my skin I jumped. I think I would have jumped if he had poked me with his finger as well -- I was just that twitchy. He waited a moment in quiet while I focused and did some even breathing. When he started again, I was prepared.

It hurt. It felt a bit like a violet wand with the dental pick attachment, but the sizzle sound and the smell really added to the effect. Like a tattoo, longer lines were more painful but the sensation was a burn -- not like the feeling of a tattoo. Not being a masochist, it did nothing for me sensation wise. It was not so bad though and I feel I could have endured a much larger brand if needed. He later said he was a little disappointed I did not scream or cry. Sadistic prick. :p

The thing that suprised me was the almost immediate cessation of burn/pain right afterwards. It was not like a sunburn or a hot stove burn that hurts for a while.. Perhaps because it is such a high temperature - 2400 degrees?

He then helped me up and whispered in my ear. It was a very emotional thing, but I am not even sure I could identify a specific emotion exactly. Then he bit my neck/upper shoulder and smacked the fresh burn.. This time, I did scream.

The brand was the Japensese symbol for strength. Immediately after it looked like a brownish/black thin lines. Two days later there is redness around the lines. I am interested to see the eventual scarification or if there will be any. Often times brands with these pens fade in 6 months to a year, depending on depth of the burn and the person. I am hoping it will eventually be a barely noticeable whitish scar that pops out when the skin reddens. Subtle, but there.

Congratulations on your brands! It's a powerful experience, I know.

Whether or not the brand will scar depends on your personal body chemisty. We all have little scars (most of mine are from cat scratches! LOL). If you find that any little scratch scars, then likely the brand will as well. If you don't, then you have a choice. you can have the brand redone enough times so that it eventually does scar...or you can go and have it tattooed in white ink. Of course, these two are after it's WELL healed.

I love my brands. I'm thinking about a redo...and if so, who I want to redo it. Quite possibly, I will have one of my slaves do it. That would have meaning for me since the brands are about the role I feel I play in their lives.

I'm glad to see someone who's had a good experience with this activity. Kudos to you...I'm not sure I could have done it.

The 2400 degree temperature kills the nerve endings, I believe, is the reason why it only hurts in THAT exact moment.

Congrats....and what an awesome symbol to have. I was all psyched up to have it done about six months ago...and then it was postponed and i haven't been as enthusiastic about having it done this time around.

Let us know how it looks as time passes.

You also might not be feeling it right after because you're body is just pumping so many counter-chemicals for it. How does it feel a few hours/days later?

Thanks to all.

My skin is kind of inconsistent on how it reacts to marks in general. I think it depends on where on the body and maybe my nutrition at the time or something.

It has been over three days and it still is not painful. Slightly irritated maybe and annoying if clothing rubs over it. It looks kinda yucky as the burn area is starting to be dry and scabby, plus the red/puffiness surrounding it.

Thank you for sharing! My husband and I have a few of those pens, and have been talking about using them, so it's good to hear from someone with first-hand experience.

Thats absolutely normal. We did my brand intentionally a bit deeper than normal, not to cause damage but because we saw so many brands fade after about a year or so. And really its the pain two or so days after that really just was hard for me, especially since we did it in August so it was very humid and hot on top of it.

Coco butter and aloe vera gel can be helpful in speeding up the healing and sometimes helping with the pain if you can touch it (and if its scabbed).

I'd strongly suggest taking pictures of it to chronicle the progression. Looking back at it the process of healing was very interesting for me to look at.

Thanks. Yes, I have been using aloe on it since it was done. It is scabbed. Yesterday afternoon I noticed my skin was sort of hard beneath the brand, like fluid collecting. I carefully but firmly rubbed it for a few minutes several time last night (ouch!) and the skin is basically soft this morning.

Congrats on your brand! I've had two brands done with a medical cautery pen. The second was simply done over the original one because they don't last indefinitely. The first brand lasted roughly a year, the second, which was burned in deeper lasted about two years.

You can also expect some very intense itching as the healing process progresses. Enjoy your new brand. :)
