I am writing my first BDSM novel. Its plot will include a number of sex scenes and some graphical descriptions of fairly extreme S&M scenarios between dominant male and submissive female characters.

The book is being written from several points of view. Sometimes from a male dominant perspective. Sometimes from the submissive female. As I am a dominant male I can write accurately from experience when it comes to the thoughts and feelings of a male dom. However providing an accurate female submissive point of view will be more of a challenge.

I was hoping that ladies who have experienced submission or slavery would be kind enough to fill in a questionnaire to help me understand the feelings, both physical and emotional, that a sub/slave encounters during certain situations which I plan to include in my book.

Your anonymity will be respected totally. I have experience of BDSM and I understand that to give yourself in submission is a precious gift which deserves respect.

I can assure you I really, really, genuinely am writing a book. I am not doing this for cheap thrills. If that was my plan I could find them on the internet without going to all this trouble. Although I’m certain I will enjoy reading any questionnaires returned to me and I hope that those completing them may find enjoyment from doing so.

If you provide me with a name (real or pseudonym), I will give you credit in the finished e-book when it is published on the web. And if you provide an email address, I will send you a free copy of the e-book. Email addresses entrusted to me will not be given to anyone else.

I am writing this book as a hobby. I will be surprised if I make any money from it at all. I’m doing it for the enjoyment and education. I hope you can join me and find some pleasure from this work.

If you want to help me, visit http://www.freewebs.com/lockardian/ where you can download my questionairre. Send it to the email address in the file.
Your help would make this novel technically accurate in the hope that it may not only be entertaining fiction, but be an insight to those who aspire to submission.
Thanks.

I'm happy to fill this out for you, but as it has many detailed questions, I feel obligated to give some pretty detailed answers. So expect it soon, but not right away.

Unfortunately, I'm not submissive so I can't fill out your survey.  However, as a writer, I've been contemplating writing a story with similar themes.  Who do you anticipate will be your audience?  Is this going on a Literotica.com sort of site or are you self-publishing with someplace like Lulu?

Hope you don't mind my curiosity.

Just a heads up for you, might make a difference to the kinds of people who might help you. There are some, quite a lot in fact, who do not see submission as any sort of gift, and find it a trite phrase bandied about without thought by others.

This has been said for the sake of balance, not to score cheap points from someone who might genuinely believe the gift scenario.

Edited to add that i have downloaded your questionnaire, and may well give some personal insight when i have the time to sit with a mug of tea and my thinking head on!

Hi Guys. And thanks for the comments.

OK about the sub term. I guess it can mean different things to different people.

Target audience? I hadnt even thought about that yet :) I write to entertain myself and if others enjoy it too, I'm doubly happy. I have written quite a few bdsm short stories, some of which were published in magazines. I have also written articles for non-bdsm hobby magazines. This is my first attempt at a novel and I'm sure wil become quite a learning experience.

A while ago when I first entertained the idea I found a couple of on line ebook publishers who specialised in S&M books. So I may approach these sites when its finished. But that could be a year away so havent thought to seriously yet.

Basically just doing this for my own enjoyment, and hopefully to provide some pleasure and inspiration to anyone else who reads it.

I just hope it turns out OK :)

If you're at all interested in publishing the novel at some point, I highly recommend Writing the Breakout Novel and On Writing Well as references.  They will help you think about your writing from a different perspective.  There are lots of great reference books, but I found those two particularly helpful.

Thanks for that.
I am just re-reading "fiction writers workshop" by....   some Ukrainian dude. (cant recall his name:)

Its always good to see how th experts do it. Although I have often thought that every one of those experts break most of the common writing rules most of the time :)

It's easy to get confused about when you can get away with breaking the "rules" of your genre.  Writing the Breakout Novel is the best I've found because it's written by a novelist and literary agent.  When writers are having problems selling their latest manuscript, or their sales figures are starting to sag, they go to this guy for help.  He doesn't have "rules" to follow as much as he provides ways of thinking about a plot or character that you might not have considered.  It's good stuff that can help any writer.  Let us know when you get it finished, or even if you just want feedback on a chapter.  I'm looking forward to reading it one day.

Thanks. I appreciate the comments.

This is my first novel. I have had short stories published but getting my head round plots and characters that last for 60,000 to 100,000 words is a bit daunting :o)

I write very slowly, I have an unusual technique that I start from the middle and work outwards. And I write the very basic story first, then fill in the character and setting details. Which means it gets re-written many times.

But right now I'm just enjoying the project, not even thinking about publishing.

cheers
Jack

Hey, whatever works.  The process matters less than the end result as long as the process works for you.  I'm in the creative writing program at my U and I also work for the university press.  If you ever want feedback, I'll be happy to help.
