ORIGINAL: scifi1133 sap no way am i going to sit outside with the fire ants....the rest i can deal with. I lived in mississippi for awhile and sat on one of their hills without knowing what it was....bad day m8 bad day. My sister's introductions to the Gulf Coast of FL beaches came in Fort Myers, when she was sitting out on her towel. She said she started feeling things crawling all over her, looked down, and was covered from her chest to her toes in fire ants. Not knowing what else to do, she ran into the water, where she just about drowned from the simultaneous stinging the ants did at that time. She was rushed to the hospital and recovered, but not before she became traumatized with them. She still lives in FL with her family, but she's now moved into a condo complex where she doesn't have to worry about her daughters being overrun by fire ants.
