Okay, I am going to give the real answer for this question, even though it is some sort of zen koan. If a tree falls in the forest, and there's no one there to hear it, does it make a sound? The real answer is no. Sound travels in waves, and for a sound to exist, means that the wave has to be recieved by something - ear drum, recording device, and turned into what is recognized as sound. So if there is NOTHING to "hear" (pick up) the sound wave, then they will not become sounds. There is nothing to make sound from the sound wave. Well, that should be nice and confusing this morning.
