I do think it's useful for both the country and its new residents when everyone is fluent in the predominant language.

Yet there's such a nasty undercurrent of nativism in a lot of folks' comments about non-English-speakers that they repel me.

Status: offline 		I have nothing against cultures other than my own but I tend to think if a person is going to set up permenant residence in a place that they should make a good attempt at learning the language and when I am having trouble understanding them they should be more patient and understanding with me if I am to be with them.

i'm sitting in my truck watching another truckdriver trying to back out of a spot in the dark & not hit anybody...it's fairly entertaining....

Status: offline 		yeah...it can get pretty boring out here so i takes my fun where i gets it...i was sick & parked in a truckstop for 2 days one time & there were numerous drivers who attempted to back their trailers into the front of my truck...the last night, i was getting food out of the cooler to make dinner in the sleeper when another one started backing into me...i figured he'd notice & pull forward, but alas, he didn't & i was too late on the air horn...not too much damage, but i had to report it....
