lol yeah.. but u werent forced to not look at the keys.. u can buy a new keyboard.. and besides.. i wouldnt have a problem with it if the thing fit.. or i was given a good reason as to why i needed to use it.. but its jsut "becuz" thats all mrs quinn (the teacher) will say. now idk about u.. but i dont think any boss would just tell u "becuz" as a reason to do something.. i could be wrong.. but that just seems like a stupid reason.

you know, sometimes you just have to jump through hoops to get to other hoops in life.  then there are bigger and better hoops to jump through and so on.  it might do you well to lose the attitude girl, you'd be happier and so would those around you i'm sure.

Hanable lots of jobs I have had to multitask and have no time to look at the keyboard and still have to type and no time to correct errors .. to the point that if I look at the keyboard now I make more errors than if I dont .. so its just good practice in case you have that kind of job .. cause you never know .. and some jobs test that way for prehire even it its not that way when you work .. and Im with Christine .. maybe your mom really just wants to hear about your day... try it and see .. but all in all Im so proud of you for being in school and doing this .. its a big step for you and I know you can do it ...

Congrats hangable,it sounds like you have your nose to the grindstone and mean business this time..If we can help in any way just let us know...

just keep me from going nuts and killing my mom.. she keeps asking how it was.. its school.. wt does she want to know? keyboarding is a pain in the ass.. were supposed to use a cover so we cant see the keys.. mom says that sometimes thats how it works.. i think shes nuts..

can any one tell me if they have ever been asked by there boss to not look at the keyboard while there typing? or that they needed to have perfect typing.. no errors or mistakes??

H >:)

You know hanable maybe if one day you could just says'Mom it went grate and I really like it" she would be so surprised that she would faint and quit asking YOU THE REST OF THE YEAR smile ..I often wondered in my typing class why they covered the boards but its to make you able to type without viewing the boards,I made it Thur by the skin of my teeth and I am still a find and peck two finger typer, Diane and I usually replace our Kb every year.. Since we run our OL business at home they certainly get a workout..

believe it or not, but it is as MissH says. if you don't look at your keys, and can concentrate on just what you're typing in, you will get very fast and very accurate with practice. back in the day, i could type 120 wpm this way. now i'm down to about 90 wpm (different sort of job now), but my accuracy rate is still at 98 or so. it's helped me ENORMOUSLY in getting better types of jobs. that and a good, humourous attitude and i'm now in middle management where i'm very happy.

I saw the bitching about keyboarding scroll by, so I came to chime in...

I've hired and fired a number of people in my day.  No one works for me that has to look at their keyboard to type.  It's a time-suck.  Like Miss Angel, I'm better than 120 wpm.  I got that fast by having to take manuscripts that were typed on typewriters and key them into the computer.  The book I was typing would have been out of date if I looked at my keyboard, at the manuscript, back at the keyboard...

When you get around 50 wpm or so, your brain does this cool thing where you can type without "reading" the words.  Your eyes see the words and your brain tells your fingers what to type, but you have no comprehension or memory of it.  That happened to me when I started typing that book.  I find it really odd, frankly, that my brain can make my fingers type and when I'm done, I have no idea what I typed, but the work is all correct.  That's the point where you really start picking up speed, when you no longer "read" the words, and you stop thinking about which key to hit.

Cali

lol, i did that too cali. people were amazed that i could type whole books and have no idea what they were about. the thing is though, you're not "reading" for comprehension - as you said - it goes in the eyes and out the fingers and doesn't need to stop anywhere in between. in fact, if you DO read it, you slow way down and your accuracy rate drops dramatically.

i still can't type and talk though. one or the other suffers.

The problem is not the boss saying you can't look at the keys...the problem is that looking at the keys slows you down.

The adult students i was teaching could only get 20-25 words per minute looking at the keys.  As soon as they quit looking they easily got to 30 and 40 words per minute.  Lots of practice helps.

My students were using "Mavis Beacon typing tutor".  Some of them had it at home.  You might try getting Mavis Beacon to put on your home computer and practice some every day at home.  15 minutes a day to start will help you to learn the keyboard.  You can download version 17 for free on download.com to try it.  i don't know how long you can use it before they charge you something...if they do charge.

Mavis Beacon Typing tutor gives you one letter at a time and builds up to cover the whole keyboard.  It also has games to play that depend on your typing speed.

Just keep practicing, i know you can start not looking as you practice more and more.

Here's a dessert question for all you diet conscious folks.  Would you rather have smaller portions or desserts made with low calorie sweetener?  Specifically - only half a chocolate brownie or the original size made with Splenda?

Here are some of each, which works best for you?  There is plenty of milk (whole, 1%, or skim) to go with the brownies.

Back to cleaning.  It is the outsides of the windows today.  The warm sun on my (naked) skin feels good.  Up on a ladder again folks... enjoy.

fluffy, i would much rather have a full-size made with Splenda!  all the fun with half the guilt.
