THEN they are going to send them in opposite directions and destroy the world...said it could happen as soon as a few months......start the party now.

The first particle stream was scheduled to be activated at 9 AM CEST on 10 September. Doing the necessary time zone adjustment means that, as of this writing, the first stream has already been running for a while. :-)

At least, that's what a press release from the CERN's LHC site states. I think everyone there is in a waiting mode now to see when the first actual collision will take place.
