Luxury is not all it is cut out to be.. stick to your guns. He is just having sour grapes that he can not do as well here as he can there. That is no fault of yours. Your children also should not have to deal with those consequences of him being unable to cut it here.

You are a wonderful parent, and they will eventualy understand.

saw 3 little baby boars (3 little pigs) up at Bushnell National Cemetary several months ago...
saw a croc at a zoo...

now gators are a whole 'nother story....

take two bags of fresh or frozen cranberries... put them in a big pot. Add 2-3 cups of sugar and enough water to cover them and then some ( they will float) add cinnomon to taste 1 tsp generally) and add one whole cut up orange. Peel and all. Just remove the seeds.

Cook this down on medium high till all the berries have burst, and it forms a thick pinkish foam on top, and gell like juice. Strain out the orange and discard it.

Let it come to a cool, strain out the berries and their skins.

Drink warm for colds, or you can dilute it with water or soda water and drink it cold for infections or a quick pick me up. I always keep a batch of it in the fridge/freezer.

If not diluted it will be very thick.

I made this recipe to also help some of my sanguinarian friends get through some tough times. But that involves an extra step or two.

The lap of luxury can be fun drh but there are two "buts". (Well three now, 'cos I introduced this with a "but" but let's move on; shit - four now).

If the things want it and try hard (and ok if they get lucky a bit too) then they'll succeed. Luxury and privilege can be fun BUT they're not necessary. There was a wonderful documentary from Michael Palin on travels in the Sahara where he met a woman with a husband and a kid and - wait for it - their own stick! (Or something similar). They had bugger all else in this world but they had every expectation before too long of owning two sticks! The pure joy on this woman's face when she chatted about her life and her wonderful husband and kid (and her stick) made you see life in a different way.

And sorry - another "but" (you keep count, I'm lost). Luxury and privilege can be fun BUT there are hugely more stupid arrogant selfish shits in the privileged world than there are in the under-priveleged one, trust me on this. Don't let your things have an easy life which turns them into selfish thoughtless shits.

Some of the most awful, selfish, greedy assholes I have met have been in the privaleged set. I swear they breed and raise them that way.
SD is right in that things earned no matter how meager they may seem to others *feel* so much better then shit handed to you.

I have refused to cowtow to my family. I am so proud of myself, and happy even in the shittiest of circumstances because I am making my own way, and living my own life. Those wads of cash, houses and cars come with flaming hoops that you have to jump through most of the time. I see my realitives and thank the Gods I did not live the lives they have, and turned out as bitter, jadded, and money grubbing as they are. You are doing the right thing by showing them that it does take hard work to keep a family together. It does take hard work to put food on the table. When sucess finds them they will know how to appreciate it, and not take it as a given right.

Oooops, my bad.  Gators then.  As for the wild pigs (boars), I didn't check the genitals of the one that Spike & I came up on at a truckstop I think on the East Coast while we were out for our walk.  I just made a rule that we were no longer allowed to wander around the ponds & stuff at the edges of the truckstops in Florida.

It is getting really bad out there. Grown ups never realize the hate and fear they instill in their ums when they say racial and gay jokes, when they call people names, or talk about these things infront of their kids. I remember going to HS in Desoto TX. I *hated* it. Mind you this was years and years ago.

There were factions just short of gangs... and people hated anyone outside of the "norm".

You couldnt pay me enough to live there little alone alow my children to be schooled in that sort of enviroment. Home schooling is the best route hun.

Tell her I wish her luck with the ums on the school front.

I lived there for a while and know all that he can do over there, but frankly, it's not the way I want the Things to grow up.  They'll be just as "entitled" as he is, and I can't bear the thought.  I'd rather raise them on love and earning what we have, rather than just snapping your fingers and getting it.  We had a cushy life for a while and it didn't make them more superior, just spoiled.  Now, we do as we can, when we can.

I've talked to the Things a bit in the recent past because I thought he was trying to do this again.  They're just confused.  They don't know what to think anymore.  The ex called me tonight and apologized for being an ass to my dad.  I told him that he needs to tell my dad personally.  I think he really got bent out of shape because he wasn't able to bully me anymore, like he could when we were married.  This is a wonderful side effect of being in the relationship with DB.  While I yield to Him, I am even stronger than before when it comes to dealing with others.

The ranch that I ride at has a whole slew of half feral/half domestic pigs and pigglets. They follow you around like puppies.

The real feral ones are out in the trails.. but they mate with the ranch piggies all the time too.

In Sanibel and SW Fl. there are tons of gators.

We had to be sure to look around the lake behind our house before walking the dog. he would have made a nice little treat for a gator.

You will be in Orlando.. the most dangerous thing there is all the damn tourisit driving like morons because they noticed a palm tree. LOL
