Sunshine (and others) - try substituting in adult education for part time pick up work ...GED...English as a 2nd language...the school districts may have some adult programs. Also check with the community colleges and libraries for substitute opportunities until you can get a regular job. The program i substitute for (NOT minimun wage) only requires that i have a college degree and that i "qualify" for a state adult substitute license. Of course they want me to get it eventually, but i've worked for them for 2 yrs without it. i teach job seaker skills, computer skills, math, essay writing, self-esteem, budgeting, interview skills, etc. Then there are temp jobs that are not published. A*** hires folks part time to move their cars around between cities. It is only a day trip at most and they only pay minimum wage, but you become an employee eligible for discounts on your personal rentals. So those are only part time or temporary jobs but they may help you get a little money and something to put on your resume. btw, SHH worked as a substitute school cook for several years before being hired. Congratulations! SHH i know a lady who substituted for the public schools in the evening as a custodian. Now she is a full time aide in special education. Good luck in your job search.
