Go get some Scrub pants PM... they make some pretty cute ones now. :D The black label dickies even have a little faux zipper so they don't look like pajama pants.

I hate silly whores in my Nursing Classes. The CNA's apparently feel they can lord their experience in nursing homes and such over the people who are just coming in with no experience.

You are both in the same class, who gives a crap? Shut up and take notes.

I agree, on both counts, but mostly on topic of scrubs.  You forgot to mention that they're easy to clean, durable as hell, and very comfy.  When I'm at home, there's about a 90% chance I'm wearing my old scrubs (from my days working in the kitchen of a nursing home, coincidentally enough).

They have some awesome prints out there now, and many styles to choose from, as opposed to really like 10 years ago still when it was either that drab blue or that horrid green.  Found some that were basically scrub cargo pants the other day.  I WANT!  What's better than scrubs?  Scrubs with pockets!

I hate it when the Soc. Sec. administration is being a bunch of puds.  Partner 1's Soc. Sec. lawyer FINALLY got in touch with the payment office that is handling the claim and backpay and such after having been told that it could take up to 4 months, max, for the backpay to be processed and appear... ELEVEN FUCKING MONTHS AGO!  I guess the office is backlogged and backpay "isn't a priority" (to Soc. Sec. payment, not the lawyer.  She wants her cut too).  It must be nice for these people to live in a world where $14K. "isn't a priority".  What IS a priority though, is getting my fucking car fixed and getting to a dentist, which would both be simple if that were to finally come in.

Here's a thought, if you have that much of a back log of things to process, there you are, more jobs!  Hire more people, get the shit done, and everyone wins!

Camille...that takes strength to do..you are a very strong woman..Kudos to you.

PM.. scrubs are good, but palazzo pants are better , very, very comfortable  http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=5091524 and http://apparel.drleonards.com/Apparel/Womens-Separates/Palazzo-Pants/50991.cfm

Lynnx might I suggest turning their experience to your favor? Ask about the difference between the book and their experience..why waste a resource? Your both learning but you can also learn some tricks from them that may help down the road.

BK..Soc. Sec. has had a hiring freeze for a while, but 11 months is outside their deadline for issuing the check. The lawyer should be leaning on them hard. They are required to send the check within a 4-6 month period from date of judgment in your favor by law.

BK, I lit a fire under people at the social security by going to my congress woman's office, calling ss at least once a week and letting them know the seriousness of what was happening and that homelessness was at hand.  You can get a letter or documents of your expenses, shut off notices, eviction etc and take it to your local office and present it all to them.  I was told there was a way to get some payment by doing that but my calls to everyone and their brother... seemed to do the trick.  I got it all within a two months... steadily the big checks kept rolling in as well as the monthly payment, which took a month and a half to start.  I didn't have a lawyer... just winged it myself, but with brain damage... it isn't something they can really fight.  But they pushed it for two years mostly because the hospital failed to send them documentation.

You might go to the web site for ss and find out how long they have to get the total sum to you and work that angle.  It seems they have gone past that from what I can recall, but your lawyer should know that!  I think they must send you something within a certain time frame, but can hold off on the total payment for about a year.  Find the loop holes then work that into conversation.  That's what I did.

Also, you have a certain amount of time to spend that money and limitations on how much you can have in belongings and such.  Brush up on that becasue it can be tricky.  As payee for my adult son, I had to be more accountable in what I did.  How does one spend that much money and only have 2000. in belongings and at most 2000 in the bank and be accountable for where the money went? lol  I found the trick.  They don't count a car needed to transport the person or a home you buy and live in.  I don't know if it is different for someone spending their own money... but I would check into those rules, they don't just tell you.

Good luck in this!

Sorry to hear this BK, SS is well known to drag its ass.  I totally lucked out when I got mine, Texas had just contracted with an outside agency to do all the processing and I guess I got in on the beginning. With sufficient prior treatment and seeing their dr, I was blessed with apply and getting approved and recieved my back by June. Of course I am the only one I know that got that lucky.  Just the idea of fighting for what is rightfully yours curls my stomach.

I sincerly hope that you will recieve your back pay soon and can take care of things you previsouly had your hands tired not being able to do.  Its a pittance but it does cover some expenses

Good luck

Oh, we're on the phone with the lawyer and sosec at least once a week, and the lawyer is doing the same thing.  Problem is with part of it, So. Sec. lost or misfiled some paperwork, etc supposedly, just a bunch of beaurocracy bullshit really.  What I can't figure out is, why they couldn't, when they were entering the claim originally, just click 2 or 3 more times probably and get that shit taken care of right off the bat.  And yes, they are VERY outside of their deadline.  It's in the works to get fixed, but it's gotten frustrating months ago.  As far as the lawyer, again, I know she's on it, because there's $4k of that in it for her, and if lawyers like one thing, it's money.  She's a cool lady and all, but I don't have any delusions at all that she's just doing it out of the goodness of her heart.  At least her mercedes clk hints at that. ;)

Lockit, you do have to spend it down, but it can be spent on, as you said, car for transportaion, home, computer, recurring expenses you can anticipate ( e.g. internet access can be paid a year in advance, monthly cell phone charges and things like that where you can use up the credit from month to month) medical care they don't cover (they have to pay any pending med bills if it has been long enough for Medicare to kick in as it was for me from the time of initial filing to award), if not you can pay those down as well. I think you can also have a IRA and it is not counted as an asset but I would check with a lawyer on that.

BK this site may explain some stuff a little better :  http://www.disabilitysecrets.com/

Thanks PeonKitten. :)  Thing is, this was after his re-eval, and appeals, and they approved it, so most of the stuff on the site isn't an issue that we need to look at.  Also, hence the lawyer (the appeals).  He's even getting his monthly checks, has been for about 10 months now.  Which is another reason I'm sitting here scratching my head, saying, "Well, why the hell couldn't/didn't you guys just spend the 2 minutes to FINISH the damn job?"

Unfortunately, the payment office is almost impossible to get at to talk with a real person, even for lawyers and such.  Talking with a congressperson however, is NOT a bad idea.  I tend to be a very patient person in general, but 6+ months past deadline is bullshit in anyone's book.....  Unless that 'anyone' is the government.  Sadly, that's who we're dealing with.

Yanno thinking about this BK....Congressmen and Senators can be very slow to respond especially these days..but your Local News Stations Problem Solving Team may get a quicker response, especially since this is dealing with a popular subject..how the government is screwing the guys at the bottom while helping the banks etc. You might be surprised at how a little inquiry from the media can cut though the BS..ask your lawyer first though.

That might be doable, if just for the fun factor of getting the media up their arse. ;)  The congressmen though would be fairly easy for me thankfully.  One of the perks of working in voc. rehab./rec. therapy at the v.a., we talk with our district and state congressmen on a fairly regular basis.

I do like the media idea.  I'm an obnoxious shit like that though. ;)

i hate having to debate whether its possible for someone with dissociative identity disorder is capable of giving consent.  i hate having to educate people as to the reality that no one gets diagnosed with MPD anymore...

Many who have DID don't actually like the term..as it explains nothing to the layman, and for most "They DID nothing willingly" and the term is galling. MPD most people have some small clue about from movies such as Raising Cain, Sybil, The Three Faces of Eve and the Troops for Trudy Chase (based on the book When Rabbit Howls), though no one who has not lived with it can truly understand. Movies are fictionalized and sensationalized..but rarely come near the reality.

that's the problem with acronyms many people will be offended...

There's actually still a great deal of debate in the psychiatric community as to where or not MPD or DID is even 'real'. Many people believe that whichever disorder you want to classify it as is simply a cop out to excuse unacceptable or erratic behavior.

Geesh Poen.....Good thing i didn't read any of them there movies ya speak of before i took my licensing or certification exams.

It is good Kali.. and yes it has always been a subject of debate. But then again it is no more debatable than say Out-burst disorder, or the causes of ADD, Autism and other psychological ills we are subject to. Heck they changed Manic Depressive to Bi-polar and it didn't clarify things any more or less than the original diagnosis name.  It wasn't all that long ago that they reclassified Homosexuality, Sadism and Masochism. People is a complicated beast and never easy to understand or classify..but we keep trying.
