i studied Physics and Math in college.  In Physics it was vacuum tube electronics.  So how many vacuum tubes have you seen lately?

I've heard you can still find them in backup power supplies (i.e. they sit on the shelf until your  "real" one blows up!) for broadcast systems, using mercury vapor diode tubes (now THERE'S a blast from the past!)

Status: offline 		Well, I went out geocaching today, and got skunked on my first one.  I was just going to fetch it when a van drove up behind me and parked.  Shit! Can't pick them up with bystanders around (aka "muggles").

Sooo, I toodle to the next one.  A very small graveyard (I was hunting graveyards today), with no shoulder, on a blind turn.  No hope there.

On the third one, there was the same blue van that skunked me above. I saw a guy coming back through the gate, and it was a past coworker, also geocaching!  So we chatted for a bit, and I ended up with one find for the day.  Then I had to pee really bad and quit for the day.  (I was in the countryside with no facilities nearby.)

How's that for some silliness?

Nah, though they can be under 'em.  Check out www.geocaching.com - it's kind of like a treasure hunt with a GPS receiver, all for fun.  We do have some strange ideas about fun, but that's besides the point.

When I was in college, I and and friend spent a Sunday afternoon on a Road Rally sponsored by a local bar...they gave you a list of clues/directions that led to items to locate, the pit stops were in bars along the way, with a huge party at the end.  OMG....talk about a hoot and a half!!!!  They also checked your mileage, the point was to run it with the least mileage....did you know that if you drive in reverse, the miles don't show up on the odometer?  It was a great day, and even then, I was the designated driver.  And we still took all day!    Maybe we wouldv'e done better if I was a bit buzzed!

Road rallies are kewl, but damn, they always want 2 person teams.  I could never find another partner...

Car & Driver had a good article back in the day about road rallies (this one used precise timing instead of least mileage) and the title was "Green Grows the Navigator".

Status: offline 		Not much.  Got a box truck today.  No it has not snowed (thankfully) and while it is suppose to rain some more, the weather is getting slightly warmer so that will not be so much of an issue.

So. . . what do you think of sliced polished dinosaur bone, set in silver, as pendent things on key chains for my parents for zipper pulls?

Apparently, it's still "unseasonably" warm here......in the 90's.  I heard from my son, he said it's getting colder in southern IL......I've seen blue on the maps of the midwest.  Right now, I'm sitting here with my a/c on just to keep the humidity down.......I alternate that with the heat to warm up.  Of course, right now, I'm not paying the electric bill, once I am, I'll be keeping it more even. 

When I was driving out here, I actually had to stop and get my coat out of the back of the truck in NM because it was actually chilly.  And I was someplace else and had to use it because it was rainy and cold!  Of course, once I got out of Texas, that all changed, and the cats just slept on my coat.  I don't miss winter at all.......
