Well I can't seem to get the visuals to work... so....

1.  When I was in New York City, I couldn't find a cab, so I went to the subway with a token that I had.

2.  When in DC you want to see the greatest museum ever!
The Smithsonian is many places but one is best and better!

3.  We scrub and scrub and play in the water then  watch the water whirl.
Is it true what I'm told in Australia the water unwhirls?

4.  When my best friend went away.
I wrote a note that helps you say
Goodbye.

Well I'm gonna go take a long walk in the neighborhood and then head off to the gym.

That should be clue enough.... (no Aylee, no dc)... although rubber duckies would have been a clue...  And our star was eluded to on a Simpson's episode...

This person is commonly known by a four syllable name.

Well, Sunshine, I think you've stumped us. And the game is stalled. So please tell us what you were going for and, if you'd like, post a new quartet.

Yay Angelika!  You got it!

Once while rushing to a New York meeting, there were no cabs available, so Rogers and one of his colleagues hopped on the subway. Esquire reported that the car was filled with people, and they assumed they wouldn’t be noticed.

From the Smithsonian website:  Mister Rogers’s Sweater, 1970s
This red knit cardigan was worn by Fred Rogers, creator and host of the children’s program, Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood (PBS, 1968–2001). For more than thirty years, Rogers began each episode by changing into a sweater and tennis shoes and singing, “Won’t you be my neighbor?”

He wrote a song "You can never go down the drain" to help children with their fears of that.
Finally, there is a famous urban legend (which is true... see Snopes ) about a little girl who wrote a letter to God about her pet dying.  A postal service worker returned the picture she'd sent along with a book by Mr. Rogers... When a Pet Dies.
I suppose it was more geared toward people who work with or know a lot about children... but that's how it goes.  We all have our specialties.
