Black Mamba ride (not sure of it's location)

Geesh I couldn't figure out if that pic was even right side up!  My brain hurts now...

Well, it IS an "inverted" rollar coaster to begin with, so upside down is right side up. Just ask Alice.

Repeating igor's new quartet:

The University of Utah Utes
The University of Hawaii Rainbow Warriors
The Texas Christian University Horned Toads
The Boise State University Broncos

Well, I'll throw in a hint or three.

The solution is sports related.
The list is unique...no other universities are on the list.
Recent controversy.

Well, it has been nearly 36 hours since posting the quartet and no one has even attempted an answer, so I withdraw the quartet and leave it open for the next person that wants to post their own quartet.

Well, I'd try, but I have no quartet in hand......

Let's see:  All collegiate teams that KEPT their team names during the "politically correct" nonsense....

Maybe: Collegiate teams that "shouldn't" be in up-coming college bowl games, but are.  (That is their records are lowere than other teams that have NOT been invited.)

Hi igor,

Lulls in this thread are not uncommon--even a few days. Hang in there, please.

It's also the week before Christmas. People have a lot going on. I'm having trouble just concentrating.

I see Lance has a guess. Perhaps additional hints are in order? Perhaps not. Often quartets are easier than they first appear.

I'll wait and see how it turns out! How did Lance do?

The biggest reason for withdrawel was the simple fact that I often don't have time to moniter the guesses over a lengthy period of time which slowes the game and is a little unfair to the other players. I'll hang on a little longer but there may be some long periods between visits for me.

Lance: You are on the right track with the second part of your answer. "Should" or "shouldn't" are kind of subjective answers that would depend on a persons personal point of view. This quartet is fact based.

Another hint or two: These are the only four universities on the list, but two of them were elegible for the list on at least two different years.

Was this something in the "regular" news (vs. a purely sports controversy)?

Okay, let me simplify this a lot (or try to)....the controversy is over whether there should be a regular playoff to determine what University has the best (#1) football team rather than the present system. Mostly this has been covered in the sports sections of the news, but a number of governmental officials, including President Obama, have discussed the problem in the media. The quartet in queston has a significant, though not overwhelming role in the controversy. Their biggest contributions to the controversy occured in the 2005-2006 season and in the present season, though the controversy is not the central point of this quartet.

Well...I guess either college football fans don't read this thread, or perhaps they are all away for the holidays.

Or are they just trying to keep the controversy quiet.....hmmmm...........

Here is another hint:

Two of the quartet teams are facing each other in the Fiesta Bowl this year....TCU and BSU. Both teams are happy to be in a bowl game, but both are a little P.O.d about who they were given as an opponent. This is part of the controversy and a pretty good hint at the answer.

Does it have something to do with not playing each other in the regular season?

Are you refering to the last hint? Actually, any way you look at it the answer would be "no".

TCU and BSU played each other twice before, but there was no controversy on those meetings. BSU and Hawaii (another of the quartet) are in the same conference and play each other during the rigular season every year.

Another hint just to try to put an end to the misery (lol).....Think, "Mid-major universities vs. the "big boys'"

So you are saying that they are so mismatched that the outcome is predetermined?
